โšฝ Sabalenka's mid-match complaint wasn't about her opponent

Leading 3-0 against Rakhimova, Aryna Sabalenka stopped play to tell the umpire: "Someone is smoking weed โ€” it's so strong." A radio call, a pointed gesture toward the stands, and the match continued.

It continued very well: 6-3, 6-4, ten aces, not a single break point faced. The smell, it turns out, was not a factor.

Smoking is banned at Flushing Meadows, but the adjacent Corona Park follows New York state law โ€” cannabis is legal there for adults. The wind has no interest in tournament rules, and Sabalenka is hardly the first to notice: Djokovic, Zverev and several players earlier this fortnight have all complained. Sixteen straight wins at the US Open, undisturbed by the neighbours.

โšฝ Hugh Jackman may be set to co-own Norwich City FC

Ryan Reynolds โ€” Jackman's co-star in *Deadpool & Wolverine* โ€” bought Welsh club Wrexham AFC in 2020 and helped take it from the fifth tier to the Championship. Now Jackman appears to be eyeing a similar move of his own.

Speaking to TalkSport, Jackman said he has supported Norwich City since childhood because the city is his mother's birthplace. The club currently plays in the Championship โ€” England's second tier โ€” and has repeatedly won promotion to the Premier League only to be relegated the following season.

Asked about rumours he was preparing to buy a significant stake, Jackman said:

"I'm very, very interestedโ€ฆ and talking about it right now."

Norwich's last major trophy was the League Cup in 1985. Talks are ongoing.

๐ŸŽฎ Valve leaked their own Left 4 Dead 2 trailer

Back in 2009, the ESRB blocked a Left 4 Dead 2 trailer from release โ€” so Valve quietly leaked it themselves. Former Valve writer Chet Faliszek confirmed it twenty years later, noting the studio still had to tone down some content afterward, per Ars Technica.

๐Ÿง› A debut that skipped the humble part

Rebel Wolves โ€” a Warsaw studio founded by Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz and fellow CD Projekt RED veterans โ€” shipped their first game on September 3. The Blood of Dawnwalker is an open-world dark fantasy RPG: medieval Europe, a hero who's human by day and vampire by night.

48 hours later: one million copies sold. For a debut studio launching a brand-new IP, that's less of a milestone and more of a provocation.

IGN gave it a 9/10. Bandai Namco is already teasing a multi-century saga. Tomaszkiewicz promises every installment will be fully standalone โ€” no cliffhangers, no "to be continued."

Turns out the Witcher years were not a fluke.

๐Ÿ’ธ Ancient Bitcoin wallets are waking up โ€” and the pace is accelerating

Four more long-dormant wallets moved a combined 202.84 BTC (~$15.73M) between Aug. 29 and Sept. 4, per Galaxy Research. The headline case: 40 BTC bought in 2011 for roughly $120 total is now worth $3.09M โ€” a 2,571,899% gain from doing nothing for 15 years.

๐Ÿ”ธ 146.06 BTC ($11.31M) โ€” untouched since 2013, up ~12,900%
๐Ÿ”ธ 6.78 BTC sent to Coinbase, signalling likely sale
๐Ÿ”ธ Several wallets tagged "Noah Doe" โ€” a New York lawsuit seeking to have dormant addresses declared abandoned property

This follows an August wave that moved ~$40M in ten days. Galaxy's data shows Bitcoin's oldest cohort reactivating at an unusual rate for 2026. If the trend holds, the supply-side pressure builds slowly โ€” but it builds.

๐Ÿš— Tesla's Cybercab is under federal investigation days after launch

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a probe covering around 1,000 Cybercabs shortly after Tesla began commercial robotaxi service in Austin, Texas.

Tesla self-certified the vehicles as compliant with federal safety standards. NHTSA will now review that process and the underlying data โ€” including which standards actually apply to a vehicle with no pedals, steering wheel or mirrors.

Reuters reports that of 420 autonomous vehicles Tesla has registered in Texas, 45 are Cybercabs. How many are carrying passengers versus testing remains unclear.

๐ŸŽฎ Tetris vs. the White House

The Trump administration launched Arcade.Gov โ€” five browser games including a Flappy Bird clone and, the star of the show, "Build the Wall": a Tetris knockoff where players "protect the border from the coming horde."

The Tetris Company responded in two beats: warmly first โ€” "Tetris brings people together, not divides them" โ€” then notably cooler, adding it "takes copyright infringement very seriously." No lawsuit yet, but the lawyers are clearly awake. Sega, also featured on the site, is still quiet, per The Verge.

Forty years of Tetris, one lesson: lines are supposed to disappear. Someone in the White House skipped that level.

๐Ÿ”’ The invisible coin just hit $1,029

Zcash is crypto's flagship privacy coin: unlike Bitcoin, ZEC uses zero-knowledge cryptography to hide sender, receiver and amount. Eight years in the shadows โ€” then this.

On Friday it broke $1,000 for the first time since its 2016 launch, touching $1,029 on Binance โ€” up 2,300% over the past year. The move flipped Dogecoin in market cap and force-closed $34.5 million in short positions on the way through the round number.

The catalyst was Fed Governor Waller hinting at a rate pause, then Friday's jobs report (162,000 vs. a 56,000 forecast) pulled Bitcoin back below $80,000 while Zcash held. On August 25, Grayscale launched the ZCSH ETF on NYSE Arca โ€” so the most private coin in crypto now trades on an SEC-regulated exchange.

Eight years of hiding, and all it took to get noticed was four digits.

๐ŸŽ Gurman just dropped Apple's full iPhone roadmap through 2028

Mark Gurman at Bloomberg published the whole picture today โ€” what's coming next week and what Apple is building all the way through 2028.

September 9th: iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max with the A20 Pro chip and mechanical aperture camera, plus a foldable iPhone Ultra at over $2,000 โ€” roughly passport-sized when folded.

2027 brings a Pro redesign Gurman calls "the biggest overhaul since the iPhone X," curved glass on every edge. Then a second foldable. 2028 gets a third, with larger displays inside and out.

More than ten models in the pipeline, and this is just what's confirmed so far.

๐Ÿ’ธ The Telegram marketplace where money laundering was just another vendor service

Xinbi Guarantee wasn't a hacker group โ€” it was a marketplace. Since 2022, vendors sold money-laundering, turnkey scam sites, and fraud-compound recruitment through its Telegram channels. Total volume: $24 billion.

On Wednesday the DOJ seized the channels and wallets, restrained 47 more addresses โ€” $52M+ total. Treasury designated Xinbi a transnational criminal organisation and sanctioned two tech suppliers. Clients reportedly included North Korean hackers and Prince Group affiliates.

The target wasn't individual scammers โ€” it was the infrastructure behind them, per CoinTelegraph.

๐Ÿ”Œ 300 rigs, one dam, zero electricity bills

Mexican federal prosecutors, the Navy and Puebla state police raided a remote mountain property in the Sierra Norte and seized 300 mining rigs drawing power illegally from the Nuevo Necaxa hydroelectric complex. No contract, no payment.

The tip-off was low-tech: unusual noise and a suspiciously large power draw near the dam. The hardware appears GPU-based โ€” altcoins, not Bitcoin. Mining is legal in Mexico; tapping a federal dam for free electricity is not. Forensic accountants are now tracing the money behind the operation for possible laundering links.

Mexico's state utility puts losses from illegal hookups at 6,346 GWh in just the first seven months of 2024 โ€” around $817 million. Per Decrypt, this is already the fourth mining bust in the region this year.

๐Ÿ’ธ The $24 billion criminal escrow got raided

Xinbi Guarantee is a Telegram-based escrow for criminals โ€” vendors of stolen data and money-laundering services post crypto deposits so buyers trust them. Since 2022: $24 billion processed, the second-largest illicit market ever tracked. The first, Huione Guarantee, was shut by Telegram in May 2025; Xinbi absorbed the traffic.

On September 8, the U.S. Secret Service and Elliptic froze 52 wallets โ€” $52.8 million in USDT. Treasury's OFAC designated Xinbi a transnational criminal organization, cartel-tier. Xinbi called it "arbitrary" and shifted $2.8M into USDD, a stablecoin with no freeze switch โ€” which is partly backed by the very USDT they're fleeing.

The DOJ's Scam Center Strike Force has seized $938M since November 2025, per Elliptic. Xinbi's balance is still on the board.

๐Ÿ“ฑ Apple finally made the fold

For years, Apple watched Samsung and Google put foldable phones through their paces on real customers. Today came the classic "One more thing": the iPhone Duo at $1,999 โ€” cheaper than most expected.

Apple chose the passport rectangle over a square, and mocked the alternative on stage: square foldables distort apps and drown video in black bars. Outside, a 5.4-inch display with asymmetric corners; inside, a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR panel.

The crease has always been the foldable's original sin. Apple promises a multi-layer build โ€” flexible glass, titanium, a custom nano-texture polymer โ€” kills it for good. Samsung spent six years getting to "barely noticeable." Whether Apple cleared that bar on attempt one is the question no keynote can answer.

๐Ÿ’ธ Jack Dorsey wants a real bank โ€” just not the boring kind

Block has filed an application with the OCC to charter Builders Bank & Trust, a national trust bank that would hold BTC and stablecoins under federal supervision โ€” no deposits, no loans, no resemblance to anything your grandmother banked at.

This isn't exactly blazing a trail. Ripple has conditional approval for a similar charter; Circle and BitGo have already crossed the finish line. Kraken's parent and crypto infrastructure firm Zerohash are in the queue too. The industry that once ran from regulators is now filling out their paperwork voluntarily.

Block's digital asset strategy lead Lee Woolley is set to run the new bank, leaning on the company's experience with Square Financial Services. Turns out the best way to custody other people's Bitcoin is with a federal address on your letterhead.
