๐ŸŽ Apple's biggest September in years is one month away

According to 9to5Mac, five devices are expected at next month's event โ€” and the iPhone lineup is unusually slim.

๐Ÿ”ธ iPhone 18 Pro โ€” camera upgrades, smaller Dynamic Island
๐Ÿ”ธ iPhone 18 Pro Max โ€” same, plus major battery gains
๐Ÿ”ธ iPhone Ultra โ€” Apple's first foldable, all-new form factor

Analysts put starting prices at $1,399 for the Pro and $1,999 for the Ultra. The base iPhone 18 and Air 2 are pushed to 2027.

Also expected: Apple Watch Ultra 4, Series 12, and possible wildcards including AirPods Pro with cameras and a screen-equipped HomePod. MacBooks and an OLED iPad mini are slated for October.

โšฝ First Filipino. First title. Two days to get there.

Alexandra Eala made history at the Washington Open โ€” the first Filipino ever to win a WTA singles title. The final got rained out mid-second-set on Sunday, with Eala leading, and finished Monday.

The rest was swift. Two-time champion Jessica Pegula took the opener 6-4, then conceded the next two sets 6-4, 6-0 to Eala's left-handed serve and zero visible nerves.

Pegula had called her "the future of the tour" before the match. Five consecutive wins over top-10 players later โ€” Rybakina, Svitolina (twice), Swiatek, Pegula โ€” the future seems to be running ahead of schedule, per BBC Sport.

๐ŸŽฎ MS Paint is now a monitor

Doom โ€” the 1993 shooter that became the internet's universal test for "can this thing compute?" โ€” has run on lawnmowers, printers, and gut bacteria. The bacteria managed, but a full playthrough would take 600 years.

New entry: MS Paint. Every frame is pasted onto the canvas as a genuine document edit, the original shareware runs at up to 35 FPS, sound and music included. The author is Mark Russinovich, CTO of Microsoft Azure โ€” the man running planetary cloud infrastructure who, in his spare time, taught Paint to run a thirty-year-old shooter, per Tom's Hardware.

Corporate boredom at Microsoft seems to be greatly exaggerated.

๐Ÿค– AI proctoring at Mexico's biggest university ends in a redo

16.3% of applicants scored 100 or above on the 120-question entrance exam this year โ€” versus a 3.5% average from 2021 to 2025. A panel of experts found the results unreliable and recommended a new in-person test. Around 58,000 students, including those who already secured places, will have to sit it again, according to Gaceta UNAM.

๐Ÿ’ธ An RTX 5090 PC for almost the same price as the GPU alone

Okay, this one is genuinely strange. Dell has the Alienware Area-51 with an RTX 5090 on sale for $4,780 โ€” that's a full system, $1,550 off.

A standalone 5090 right now runs $4,500+ new, or around $4,000 used on eBay with real risk attached. For a few hundred more you also get a Core Ultra 7 265K, 32GB DDR5-7200 RAM, 1TB SSD, 360mm liquid cooling, and a 1,500W PSU.

If you were already eyeing a 5090, buying just the GPU right now is a hard sell, IGN reports.

๐Ÿ’ธ Spotify hits 300 million Premium subscribers

300 million paying subscribers at the end of Q2 2026 โ€” 7 million added in the quarter, beating guidance. Revenue came in at โ‚ฌ4.78 billion, with gross margin reaching an all-time high of 33.4%. Variety reports Spotify is guiding for 305 million Premium subscribers in Q3.
๐ŸฅŠ TKO held a fight on the White House lawn and lost $30 million

UFC Freedom 250 was staged on the South Lawn on June 14 โ€” Donald Trump's 80th birthday. No tickets sold, seven bouts, every single one ended by knockout, which had never happened in UFC history.

CEO Ari Emanuel called it "a roaring success." The CFO clarified: $30 million loss. No gate revenue, enormous costs. Still, 8.2 million viewers on Paramount+ โ€” the platform's biggest live exclusive ever โ€” and TKO beat analyst expectations for the quarter anyway.

The CFO's explanation, per Variety: they used the event to meet partners in D.C. and lock in deals through 2028. Sometimes the networking just costs that much.

๐ŸŽฎ GTA VI steps into the light โ€” August 27th brings an extended look

GTA V launched in 2013, sold nearly 230 million copies across three console generations, and remains a force on Steam to this day. The sixth instalment carries expectations few games ever face. Rockstar confirmed development in 2022, released two trailers โ€” and is now offering the first sustained look at the game itself.

The stream hits YouTube at 9PM ET on August 27th; Netflix subscribers get it six hours early. The two companies have history โ€” Rockstar previously brought the original GTA trilogy to Netflix's mobile platform โ€” so the exclusive premiere window is a natural next step.

With a November 19th release date already reshaping the industry's autumn calendar, this preview opens roughly twelve weeks of marketing runway. No details on the content yet, per The Verge.

๐Ÿค– A Bitcoin bridge shut down because AI found bugs faster than the team could fix them

Boltz โ€” a non-custodial bridge between Lightning Network and Bitcoin's base layer โ€” has suspended swaps indefinitely. The reason is disarmingly honest: AI-assisted attacks are now iterating faster than a small team can patch.

"Attackers now iterate faster than a team our size can find and patch."

No user funds were touched โ€” the platform is non-custodial, $262K TVL per DeFiLlama. Refund APIs still work, support is available.

The quiet irony: a project built to cut out the middleman turned out to be the weak link โ€” and said so plainly. Most would've just shipped a v2.

๐Ÿ’ธ ElizaOS founder calls the token 'dead' โ€” down 19% to all-time low

The ElizaOS token โ€” formerly AI16Z โ€” hit a record low of $0.000284, with a market cap of $2.1 million. In January 2025, that figure was $2.5 billion.

Eliza Labs founder Shaw Walters announced the token is "completely dead." The Eliza Foundation is winding down after settling a tokenholder lawsuit by transferring its remaining treasury to claimants. The April suit alleged false advertising and unjust enrichment; Walters called it "ridiculous" but said the project had no funds left to fight it.

Development of the open-source Eliza framework continues โ€” without a token. Cointelegraph had not received comment from either party by publication time.

๐ŸŽฎ Game Boy Advance turns 25 โ€” and someone finally remade it

Not Nintendo. Ayaneo, the Chinese handheld maker, just revealed the Konkr Pocket Advance: same iconic horizontal shape, but a 960ร—640 LCD, full ABXY layout, USB-C, microSD, Wi-Fi โ€” plus a volume wheel and 3.5mm jack, because retro is in the details.

Two colorways: deep navy (hello, Indigo GBA) and coral orange (Spice Orange lives). Price and release date? Ayaneo isn't saying โ€” classic move.

Twenty-five years Nintendo didn't bother. Turns out you just had to wait for someone else, per The Verge.

๐Ÿ”‘ A $9 key that outsmarts your willpower

Every app blocker has the same flaw: it's software, and software folds the moment your resolve does. One tap and the "block" is gone.

Autonomous Key goes physical. It's an NFC key for $9 โ€” tap it to your phone, get 60 minutes of access to your locked apps, then the door shuts again. Leave the key at the office or in another room, and opening TikTok stops being a reflex and becomes an actual decision.

Competitors charge far more: Blok $29, Unpluq $26.50, Brick $59. No subscription required. The catch: NFC occasionally needs multiple scans, and if you lose the key while apps are locked, the only fix right now is reinstalling the companion app.

Ancient idea, new hardware: don't want to eat the cookies, don't keep them on the counter. Now that's a nine-dollar product.

๐Ÿ•ถ๏ธ Sunglasses with infinite battery life (no battery required)

DuckDuckGo โ€” the search engine built entirely on not watching you โ€” just released sunglasses. No camera, no mic, no battery, no electronics of any kind. They're called "Normal F\*\*\*ing Sunglasses," cost $35, and the first run sold out in under a week.

The context: Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses have spent 2025 collecting bad headlines โ€” covert filming, changing-room footage reviewed by contractors, a class-action lawsuit, a Texas AG investigation. DEF CON and Comic Con banned them at the door.

DuckDuckGo's answer is a spec sheet that brags about absences: "zero notifications guaranteed," 0% surveillance risk, infinite charge life. The lenses are real UV400 polarized glass, per TechSpot.

The hottest wearable of the year does absolutely nothing.

๐Ÿš— Finland was kind to its trees today

Rally Finland is one of WRC's fastest rounds โ€” forest roads that forgive mistakes roughly the way nature forgives debts. Saturday delivered that lesson to several crews at once.

Elfyn Evans, the championship leader, rolled his Toyota three times on stage 14, got pulled from a ditch by spectators, survived a lunch-break rebuild โ€” and somehow ended the day third overall.

Sรฉbastien Ogier was leading until stage 17, when his Toyota met the trees on a fast right-hander. The nine-time champion and co-driver Ingrassia got out unaided; Toyota's update was cautiously reassuring.

Sami Pajari inherited the lead โ€” 46.4 seconds clear โ€” with two stages left on Sunday.

Finland decided this championship needed a plot. Objective achieved.
