𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋: Chelsea Academy goalkeeper Max Merrick has signed a new three-year contract. ✍️

The goalkeeper joined the Blues as an Under-13 from grassroots football after impressing on trial.

He made his Under-18s debut during the 2022/23 season and was on the men’s first team bench for an FA Cup game against Aston Villa the following year.

This season, Merrick established himself as the regular goalkeeper for the Under-21 side, and was on the bench for the first team again for the UEFA Conference League matches against Noah and Astana.

He made his England Under-20 debut in October, shortly before his 19th birthday. Merrick then spent the second half of the campaign on loan at Hampton & Richmond, playing 19 games and gaining valuable experience in the senior game.

𝐎𝐅𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐈𝐀𝐋: Chelsea midfielder Jimi Tauriainen has signed a new contract until June 2027. ✍️

The midfielder joined the Blues in 2020 from Helsingin Jalkapalloklubi in his native Finland.

Having featured for the Under-18 and Under-21 sides, he was named among the subs for the Carabao Cup final at Wembley Stadium in February 2024.

In the next game, an FA Cup fifth round tie against Leeds United at Stamford Bridge, he made his senior debut when he entered the pitch as a late substitute.

He then recorded his first Premier League appearance, coming off the bench in a home win over Tottenham. An injury sustained in pre-season kept Tauriainen out of action in 2024/25.

😤 “I feel frustrated, not because of Tottenham. I feel frustrated because if you see the data, we are the first or second club in creating chances.

“I’m not thinking about Tottenham. If they’re going to play Champions League next season, it’s because they have done something good, winning the Europa League.

“The frustration is more because I think overall we did enough to finish top four or top five. The numbers are there, offensively and defensively. We are the third-best defence in the league, but we have the risk of not finishing in the top four or top five.

“I feel frustrated because I think we did enough offensively and defensively to finish in the Champions League. But now we are here and we will try to finish in the right way.”
