Dean Huijsen is not the only centre-back on Chelseaโ€™s minds for this summer as they have a shortlist which also includes Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi and Evertonโ€™s Jarrad Branthwaite.

But why Chelsea are pursuing another player in this position at all and what are the ramifications for those centre-backs at the club? ๐Ÿค”

One of the factors behind Chelsea considering doing this is because of Wesley Fofanaโ€™s injury issues. He is still highly regarded at the club, but given he has started just 26 Premier League games since joining from Leicester City they have to factor in his injury record.

Levi Colwill:

Chelsea have ignored strong interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad before. He is still being monitored by many teams. But sources insist the England international is not for sale.

Trevoh Chalobah:

Chalobah is going to be a different story because Chelsea tried to sell the academy graduate last summer.

He has played 27 times this season, so that will help Chelseaโ€™s chances of receiving a decent permanent fee.

Axel Disasi:

Chelsea have said they would work together with Disasi to find a permanent transfer for him in the next window.

Renato Veiga:

With Colwill first choice at left-sided centre-back there, it means Chelsea are more likely to listen to offers for Veiga. Due to his rapid development at 21, the possibility of making a sizeable profit has further appeal.

Josh Acheampong:

There is no desire for him to go anywhere, even on loan. The 18-year-old is seen as someone that can provide cover at right-back & in midfield.

Benoit Badiashile:

He is another earmarked in the โ€˜stayโ€™ category.

Tosin Adarabioyo:

There is a more of a question mark over Tosin and whether he is content with a back-up role, after just 13 starts for Chelsea following his free transfer from Fulham last summer. The 27-year-old is respected for being one of the few natural leaders in the dressing room.

Aaron Anselmino:

He will be loaned out next season and there is interest from Champions League and Europa League clubs.

Mamadou Sarr:

Chelsea are thinking about him staying on loan [at Strasbourg] a season.

Enzo Maresca ahead of Everton [H] in the Premier League:

๐Ÿฅ On team news:

โ€œMalo [Gusto] is injured but it does not look like an important injury.

โ€œHe is running and doing things outside, but he wonโ€™t be available for tomorrowโ€™s game.

โ€œOutside of that, Marc Guiu is still out, Aaron Anselmino is still out but the rest are still fit. Hopefully Marc can be back in one or two weeks.

โ€œMarc is doing well and he is getting close [to a return to action]. Maybe another one or two weeks and then we hope he will be back to help us with the final part of the season.โ€

๐Ÿค” Whether Christopher Nkunku will be in the squad after being left out of Chelseaโ€™s win at Fulham:

โ€œHe is in the squad, He has been good in the last week when he was out. We need to decide one or two players out and to give some of the young players a chance to be with us. He is training well. Probably in this moment, if he is in the squad, one offensive player has to be out for the Fulham game and that probably would have been Tyrique [George].โ€

โณ Whether George is pushing for a Premier League start:

โ€œYeah. But now for a young player, we are excited, but we need to manage them because they can be too easily excited and can be too easily down.โ€

๐Ÿ“ˆ On Pedro Netoโ€™s progress:

โ€œI think Pedro helps us a lot, especially when Nico [Jackson] was injured and he played as a no.9. He is better on the right but sometimes we use him on the left because we also have Noni [Madueke].

โ€œI think overall he is doing well with us. I think he has scored four or five goals in the Premier League. Our wingers, for me, they have to score around 10 goals at the end of the season. Pedro is doing well but there is no doubt he can do better in terms of numbers.โ€

5๏ธโƒฃ0๏ธโƒฃ On Marescaโ€™s experience so far ahead of his 50th game in charge with the Blues:

โ€œItโ€™s been a good experience and Iโ€™m very happy. I have learned many things here.

โ€œPlaying in many competitions and playing every three days, itโ€™s a journey in terms of learning things. We have had some good moments, some bad moments but the club has a vision and we are just at the beginning of that vision.โ€

Enzo Maresca on whether Cole Palmerโ€™s goalscoring drought is a mental/tactical/technical issue:

๐Ÿง  โ€œFor sure, itโ€™s mental. I donโ€™t think itโ€™s tactical, I donโ€™t think itโ€™s technical, because Cole is still the same player who scored this season with us.

โ€œThe style of football we play is the same one. The manager is the same one. The club is the same one. So nothing changes around Cole and Cole doesnโ€™t change. Itโ€™s just mentally at this moment. For sure, you can see that he is a little worried because he wants to help the team.

โ€œFor sure, Cole is going to score goals. We always try to set up our game to put our best player in condition to be dangerous. We have done since we started. We are doing that every game.

โ€œIf you go back game by game, he had at least one or two chances every game so itโ€™s not about how the team is playing. If you want to see it as the team playing a different way, youโ€™ve seen it that way, but the reality is not that.

โ€œItโ€™s just football, that in this moment he is missing the goal. No more than that.โ€

Palmer has gone 16 games without scoring for the Blues.

Enzo Maresca hints that he wants more experience in his squad:

๐Ÿ‘ถ โ€œWe are not [just] young. We are the youngest team in the Premier League. And the second in European football. Look at the games against Brighton away and see our bench, we have three players born in 2006.

โ€œI donโ€™t remember years ago, for instance, when [Didier] Drogba was here and the manager changed Drogba who was on the bench. Fernando Torres? I donโ€™t know. I donโ€™t remember. Now we change Nico [Jackson] with 2006, Tyrique [George] from the academy. You see that? I see that.โ€

โ€œI love Van Dijk. Heโ€™s a fantastic player and heโ€™s going to be at Liverpool again. In terms of experience, I think next year our squad will have more experience and then we can be better. For sure, when you have experience you have something more, no doubt.

โ€œBut the ones that struggle this year in terms of experience, they have already one more year in terms of experience. Next year they can be better.โ€

๐ŸŽ™ Marc Cucurella speaking to TNT Sports: "The morale is good. Today is a very important game for us. We had a good comeback last weekend so today we have a good opportunity to get another three points and be ready for the last games.

The fans need to stay with us. We will have moments that we need to suffer but if we stay together we can do it. We have prepared well for the game and we know it is massive for us. We are going all out for everything."
