VWAP (Volume Weighted Average Price)
π’ What VWAP Is
1. VWAP is the average price a stock has traded at during the day, weighted by volume. It combines both price and volume to provide a more accurate average price.
2. It's useful for determining if a stock is trading at a relatively fair value during the day.
π’ VWAP Calculation
VWAP is calculated by taking the cumulative total of price multiplied by volume for each trade and dividing it by the cumulative total of volume for the day.
VWAP = (Sum of Price Γ Volume) / (Total Volume)
π’ Intraday Indicator
VWAP resets each day at the market open. It is most useful for intraday traders as it shows the average price of the stock over the current trading session.
π’ Interpretation
Above VWAP: When the stockβs price is above VWAP, it indicates an uptrend and may be a sign of buying pressure.
Below VWAP: When the price is below VWAP, it suggests a downtrend and potential selling pressure.
π’ VWAP as Support/Resistance
1. VWAP often acts as a dynamic support or resistance level during the day.
2. In an uptrend, the price may bounce off the VWAP, using it as support. In a downtrend, the price may struggle to break above VWAP, treating it as resistance.

Entry: Many traders wait for the price to pull back to VWAP in an uptrend and enter long positions when it bounces off VWAP.
Exit: In an uptrend, traders might take profit when the price rises far above VWAP or if it starts dipping below VWAP.

VWAP can be used for mean reversion strategies, where traders expect the price to return to VWAP after deviating far from it during intraday trading. This is particularly useful in range-bound markets.
While VWAP resets daily, you can apply anchored VWAP to different timeframes, like weekly or monthly, for longer-term analysis. This can help identify more significant support and resistance zones beyond just the daily session.
VWAP lags: Since VWAP accumulates data over the entire day, it becomes less responsive to short-term price changes compared to other indicators.
Best for Intraday Trading: VWAP is less useful for swing or position traders because it resets each day, making it mainly beneficial for intraday and day traders.

Pay attention to volume spikes near VWAP. If the price breaks above or below VWAP on high volume, it could indicate a stronger trend or reversal.
Donβt use VWAP alone: Always combine VWAP with other indicators or chart patterns to confirm signals.
Best for liquid assets: VWAP works well in highly liquid assets, where volume plays a significant role in price action.
Avoid during gaps: VWAP might not be reliable after large price gaps, like in the case of earnings or news releases.
