Tele is becoming the smartest company in Ethiopia forcefully.
Of all the talks what I never heard is the amount of service charges they get just because they sell their share.
Imagine service charge is in percentage it's not even fixed amount so the more people buy their share the more profitable tey become and the more the share value increases.
Idk if this is a smart move or forcefully smart but regardless it's so smart.

As a technical person if we consume a little bit of business mindset we would have been in a much better place.
So try to learn from the business people how the business you can run business and potentially partner with them and learn from the best.
Anyways as much as we need a lot of technical person I think some of you also needs to know how you can sell tech to the non tech people.
Have a great day Devs.

MOE release result and placement every year and their everytime they have a server problem.
How come a big ministry office always fail to provide either a good system to show results or a loooooot of servers and databases for a week at least.
Let's break down a bit for real. The database doesn't have a lot of write at the moment which means they have a lot of read operations. This means they better off with postgres database or event use a redis for the time being until the student finish seeing.
Like we can have loads 10M row to couple of redis servers or even use Cassandra dB for this.
And have 10 or even couple more powerful servers. Like spend a few money for a few days.
Or make them pay if they can't cover this cost to see the results. Like 1 ETB(from each) is much more than enough for the next 5 year server cost.
So I still don't get why always the server issue or performance issue happens every single times.
This is all my thoughts and not trying to insult anyone. Just my thoughts that we can improve this kind of thing

I am a bit tempted to post this post on the channel but I shouldn't have to.
At the moment the
Backend Language + Framework: GoLang with net/http package(default package) or fiber Framework
Database: PostgreSQL with other supporting cache db like redis or CockroachDB
Frontend: If possible use pure HTML, CSS, Javascript for frontend but if not use React only.
Other General suggestions:
- Use Load Balancer for the application
- Use caching mechanism for the application
- Have an auto-scaling mechanism in place (better if you are using cloud services)
https://placement.ethernet.edu.et/ is made using NextJs with unknown backend(it might be nextjs too) and db. But my suggestion is to use the following technologies for the new placement system.Backend Language + Framework: GoLang with net/http package(default package) or fiber Framework

For frontend gurus
Can you guys tell me if state management is really needed while using nextjs with swr for data fetching, since swr can catch API data and revalidation is already done?
FYI: I only need state management for data fetched from API?

Finally AWS shipped the redis fork (replacement) valkey to their service.
Valkey is supported by major cloud providers like Google, AWS, Oracle and also from the popular social media company Snapchat.
The initiative of valkey was led by an amazing software engineer from AWS Madelyn Olson. She was a very popular person on the redis community.
Valkey is now owned by Linux foundation which is one of the largest open source community.

Whenever somebody says I will make you big money if you do what I said automatically I will cancel him.
Why? you might asked
Because the only thing he can make you is how to make a small amount and rest is uo to you to make it big and grow it as you grow in that expertise.
The reality is if I make 100k USD/year and I said I will show you how you can make this much amount minamn that is like automaticallybullshit . But I can say I will show you or advice you on how to land a junior position job with a looot less paying that what I am getting. This is acceptable because most people starts small.
The point I am trying to make here is big money will just attract people and they hate the process of getting there. They just wanna jump on that boat and print money. I mean I wish I can do that π but reality hits you back.
Anyways keep up champ. Everyone starts from small amounts. So don't be scared to go through the process.

From 2013 to 2014 we only had ~4200 customers (1 woreda) and we expanded to 16k (2 woredas).
In 2015, we reached the whole sub-city (Kolfe Keranio) with 90k customers.
In 2016 we reached ~280k customers covering 4 sub-cities, which is still ongoing strong.
This year we are planning to cover at least 8 sub cities reaching an estimated 750k customers.
