As part of our Kavli Frontiers of Science leadership campaign, I am writing to share with you a significant leadership development opportunity. If you are not interested but know of a suitable candidate you think might be, please pass this message on.
The White House Fellowship, https://whff.org, offers a chance to serve at the highest levels in the US federal government. The program attracts emerging leaders from all fields, but over the years relatively few engineers and scientists have participated. The President’s Commission on White House Fellowships is seeking applications from qualified candidates from such under-represented groups.
A webinar introducing the fellowship will be held this Thursday, September 23, from 7pm-8pm, East Coast time in the U.S. To register, click here.
If you are interested in applying for the fellowship and this webinar is not convenient, please contact Dr. Rob Leland at robertleland@me.com with questions. Rob is an alumni of the Frontiers of Engineering program as well as a former White House Fellow, and he is leading the national recruiting effort for scientists and engineers on behalf of the fellowship.

国内过来读master的本科毕业生，有相当一部分，保守估计有一半，仿佛在国内大学没有接受过正儿八经的学术论文训练，连如何注释，如何直接引用和间接引用，直接引用和间接引用是什么关系，都搞不清楚。还是比较震惊的。 source

哈佛学生刊物《The Crimson》每年都会做新生调查。因为调查的填写率很高（八成），所以结果值得一看。
三成受访者是校友子女或姊妹，一成是体育特招。三成受访者的家庭收入在美国中位数（七八万美元）以下，保守估计有两成以上的受访者家庭收入超过 50 万美元，也就是家庭收入在美国前百分之二。（估算过程：有 13% 的人明确说自己家庭收入超过 50 万美元，有 17% 的人选择了“不愿回答”。但这两群人的 SAT 分数、校友子女比例差不多，所以“不愿回答收入”的这群人估计家庭收入特别高。）
校友子女比非校友子女的 SAT 均分高 30 左右。SAT 总分 1600，标准差大约 200。不知道 30 相比于你的预期是高还是低。
三成的人不是异性恋。有过性生活的男性新生比例较八年前从 44 提高到了 57，女性从 26 提高到了 48，不知道是实际行为有变化，还是受访者更愿意汇报了。
见心理咨询的新生比例从八年前的一成提高到 2021 年的三成。
八成新生去年投票支持了 Biden。七成说自己是自由派（美国人中这个比例是三成不到）。
社交软件使用方面，九成有 Instagram 账户，八成有 Facebook，八成有 Snapchat，六成有 Twitter，六成有 Tiktok。但是在“使用者”里面，TikTok 的平均使用时长最高。调查配套的文字稿说，TikTok 80% 的使用者每天使用该应用超过 15 分钟，10% 的使用者每天花超过两个小时，这个比例是所有应用的使用者里最高。【感想 1）每天两小时 TikTok 还能上哈佛！2）不同应用的使用时长分布特别有趣，大家可以仔细比较一下。】
