ECB Monetary Policy Decisions:

The European Central Bank has cut its three key interest rates by 25 basis points, lowering the deposit facility rate to 2.25%, the main refinancing rate to 2.40%, and the marginal lending rate to 2.65%, effective 23 April 2025. This decision reflects encouraging progress on inflation, with both headline and core inflation declining particularly in services while wage growth shows signs of moderation.

However, rising trade tensions and market uncertainty pose risks to euro area growth and financing conditions. The ECB emphasized a data-dependent approach moving forward, ruling out pre-commitments to further rate changes. It will continue phasing out bond holdings under the APP and PEPP programs and stands ready to deploy its Transmission Protection Instrument (TPI) if needed to safeguard monetary policy effectiveness. The ultimate goal remains anchoring inflation sustainably at its 2% target amid a highly uncertain global environment.
