The LORD bless you and keep you!
The LORD let his face shine upon you, and be gracious to you!
The LORD look upon you kindly and give you peace!
So shall they invoke my name upon the Israelites, and I will bless them.
Numbers 6:24-26

THE HERMIT WHO WEPT CONSTANTLY
St. Thalelus (d. 460) was a Syrian hermit who was famed for his unceasing sobs. In the monastery of St. Sabbas the Sanctified, he was ordained as a presbyter. He later resided in a tent alongside a graveyard near a run-down pagan temple in Syria near Habala. Passers-by were terrified of the filthy ghosts that inhabited the area. The monk stayed alone, praying at all hours of the day and night, until ultimately the demons were driven away. He constructed himself a tight cabin and stayed there for the next ten years. Many people were converted as a result of his example and miracles, and a church was erected in place of the pagan temple.

Matthew 4:1-11
At that time Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. He fasted for forty days and forty nights and afterwards was hungry. The tempter approached and said to him, โIf you are the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread. He said in reply, โIt is written: One does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes forth from the mouth of God.โ Then the devil took him to the holy city and made him stand on the parapet of the temple and said to him, โIf you are the Son of God, throw yourself down.Jesus answered him, โIt is also written: โDo not put the Lord your God to the test.โ
Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. โAll this I will give you,โ he said, โif you will bow down and worship me.โ Jesus said to him, โAway from me, Satan!For it is written: โWorship the Lord your God, and serve him only.โThen the devil left him,and angels came and attended him.

On this, the day of your fall,
the islands quake!
The islands in the sea
are terrified at your passing.
Indeed thus says the Lord God:
When I make you a ruined city
like cities no longer inhabited,
When I churn up the deep
and its mighty waters cover you,
Then I will thrust you down
with those who go down to the pit,
to those of the bygone age;
I will make you dwell in the netherworld,
in the everlasting ruins,
with those who have gone down to the pit,
So you will never return
or have a place in the land of the living.
I will make you a horror,
and you shall be no more;
You shall be sought for,
but never found againโ
oracle of the Lord God.
(Ezekiel 26:18-21 NABRE)
