Qur'an Study Class: Lesson 1 Surah Al Fatiha to Surah Al Baqarah Verse 21

By studying the Qur’an we can become the people of Allah swt.

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Verily, Allah has his own people among humanity.” They said, “O Messenger of Allah, who are they?” The Prophet said, “They are the people of the Quran, the people of Allah and his chosen ones.” Source: Sunan Ibn Mājah 215

Salah

Allah azza wa jal blessed us with five pillars of Islam. Messenger ﷺ has explained for us, when he said: “Islam is built upon five [pillars]: the testimony that there is no god but Allaah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allaah; establishing regular prayer (salaah); paying the zakaah; Hajj (pilgrimage) and fasting Ramadaan.” (al-Bukhaari)

I spoke about the shahaadah before in a previous post and today as I feel I ned the reminder, I thought I’d mention prayer (salah). Salah was made an obligation for Muslims and was revealed to the Prophet ﷺ. We learnt how to pray from the Sunnah.

When the Adhaan is sounded we are called to prayer and called to success. Yet the way we are today it is as if we do not want success. Our idea of true success has been warped in this world.

“Verily, As-Salaah (the prayer) is enjoined on the believers at fixed hours”[al-Nisa’ 4:103]

I recommend looking into the seerah of Muhammad ﷺ to learn about the night of the Mi’raaj [Prophet’s ascent to heaven], approximately three years before the Hijrah.

Fifty prayers (per day) were enjoined at first, then the number was reduced to five, but the reward of fifty remains. This emphasizes Allah subhanahu wa ta’aala’s mercy and love for prayer.

This obligation, erases sins, strengthens our hearts and it what our emaan relies upon.

The Messenger of Allaah ﷺ said: “Between a man and shirk [associating others with Allaah] and kufr [disbelief] there stands his giving up prayer.” (Muslim)

So if you read this post, please reflect over your prayers. Do you pray? How many times? If you’re praying all five, is it with complete concentration?

I hope this post, reminds us all to pray and to make Salah our priority. We can’t afford to not succeed due to our laziness and heedlessness over an obligation that we are rewarded mightily for and maintains and strengthens our faith.

“When you’re hasty in your salah just remember that whatever you desire to get of whatever you fear losing is in the hands of the One in front of whom you’re standing.”

NEW AQIDAH LEVEL 1 COURSE ON TELEGRAM - Presented by Al-Badr Foundation

Lesson 1 - Faith Is The First Obligation Upon Every Muslim

It is the first obligation upon every Muslim to - Gain Knowledge of Tawheed. We must know Allah, with His rights and the ones who stand against Allah and its treatments. This comes from understanding the Kalimah (words) at-Tawhid and knowing what it warrants and the rejection of its opposite - as Shirk. Every Muslim is required to know what keeps him in faith and what nullifies it.

Mankind’s First Obligation – Know that the first thing Allah obligated on the Son of Adam is to reject the Taghout and believe in Allah. The proof for this is Allah’s saying: “And We have indeed sent to every nation a messenger (saying to his people):

أَنِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ وَاجْتَنِبُوا الطَّاغُوتَ

“…worship Allaah alone, and keep away from Taghoot (false deities)…” (Surah an-Nahl 16: 36

The Meaning of Rejecting the Taghout and Believing in Allah - As for the description of Rejecting the Taghout, then it is that you believe in the futility of worshipping others than Allah, and that you abandon doing so and hate it, and that you reject and make enmity with those who do it. As for the meaning of Believing in Allah, it is that you believe that Allah is the only true Deity who deserves to be worshipped alone, apart from everything else besides Him. And it is that you make all types of worship – every act - sincerely for Allah alone, while negating and rejecting everything else that is worshipped besides Him. It also entails that you love and show friendship to the people of Ikhlas (i.e. Islam), while hating and showing enmity to the people of Shirk.

This is the Religion of Ibrahim (Millatu Ibrahim), of which those who turn away from it only fool themselves. A good example that Allah informs us of in His saying:

“There has indeed been an excellent example for you in Ibrahim and those with him, when they said to their people: ‘Verily, we are free from you and whatever you worship besides Allah. We have rejected you and there has commenced between us and you, enmity and hatred forever, until you believe in Allah alone….” (Surah al-Mumtahinah 60: 4)

Statement La ilaha illaAllah is limited with heavy conditions, that has to be fulfilled with words, believes and deeds.

Sheikh Abdur Rahman ibn Hasan {1285H} (رحمه الله) said:

“According to consensus verbal pronouncement of testimony of Tawheed will not benefit unless it accompanies with knowledge, certainty or without deeds it necessitate such as rejection of Shirk, sincerity in words and deeds; words and deeds of heart and words and deeds of limbs.”

Ibn al-Qayyim – rahimahullaah- said:

“There is no doubt that the heart becomes covered with rust, just as metal dishes – silver, and their like – become rusty. So the rust of the heart is polished with dhikr, for dhikr polishes the heart until it becomes like a shiny mirror.

However, when dhikr is abandoned, the rust returns; and when it commences then the heart again begins to be cleansed. Thus the heart becoming rusty is due to two matters: (1) sins and (2) neglecting remembrance of Allaah. Likewise, it is cleansed and polished by two things : (1) istighfaar and (2) dhikr.”

[Al-Waabilus-Sayyib, p.80]
How pure is your heart?

"If the heart was pure, it would be in turmoil when a sin is committed"

Try to do as much dhikr during the day as possible.

On the authority of Ai'sha

Messenger of Allah ﷺ said

There is never a time that the children of Ādam pass without remembering Allah in it except that it would be regretted on the day of Standing

SISTERS' CORNER

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “I was shown Hell and I have never seen anything more terrifying than it. And I saw that the majority of its people are women.” (Bukhari)

As a woman, this hadith really resonates with me. Our Prophet ﷺ saw with his own eyes that the majority of the hellfire are women and told us of this. We therefore must take heed and help one another as sisters of Islam to ensure we are not of those women. Whenever I am reminded of it, I shudder and wonder if I will be of those women. Many of our planned posts are topics that women can relate to and are in regards to issues women face. We thought we would put all of these under one section of our site to create a concise map for all women to turn to. We hope, with the permission of Allah, the Most High that we may be of those saved from His fire and under His shade, so we will be writing and posting about topics that will help us be of the women of Jannah.

May Allah send his peace and blessings upon his noble messenger Muhammad Ibn Abdullah.

May he also release all the innocent Muslims from prison.

May he unite the Muslims upon establishing Tawheed and grant us victory against his enemies.

May he also rectify our affairs.
