It was narrated by Abu Dharr that the prophet (peace be upon him) said that Allah says:

"O My slaves, if the first of you and the last of you, your humans and your jinn, were to stand on a single plain and ask of Me and I were to give each one what he asked for, that would not cause any loss to Me greater than what is lost when a needle is dipped into the sea."

[Reported by Muslim, 2577]
'Death is around the corner, you may not see it but it sees you. You may not like it but one day it will overtake you. Before its to late seek Allah's pleasure so that he may make death the best thing that every happened to you (by giving you jannah after it)'.
Abu Sa'id and Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said:
"Never a believer is stricken with a discomfort, an illness, an anxiety, a grief or mental worry or even the pricking of a thorn but Allah will expiate his sins on account of his patience".

[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].
Arabic/English book reference : Book 1, Hadith 37
Once you die and are buried, you could be the richest person in the cemetery and it wouldn't benefit you. Or you could be the person in the cemetery with the most famous name or the biggest family, yet it still wouldn't benefit you. Do you know what would benefit you once you've died and are buried six-feet deep underground? Your deeds...

We will delve into each one as it is of paramount importance to know this. We look at the hadith of Jibril AS to see more on this. This post does no justice to the hadith and the knowledge one can extract from it however we try hope to clarify basics in a series of posts. The hadith of Jibril AS:
_
It was narrated on the authority of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
_
While we were one day sitting with the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), there appeared before us a man dressed in extremely white clothes and with very black hair. No traces of journeying were visible on him, and none of us knew him. He sat down close by the Prophet (peace be upon him), rested his knee against his thighs, and said, "O Muhammad! Inform me about Islam."
_
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said, "Islam is that you should testify that there is no deity except Allah and that Muhammad is His Messenger, that you should perform salah, pay the Zakah, fast during Ramadan, and perform Hajj to the House, if you are able to do so."
_
The man said, "You have spoken truly." We were astonished at his questioning him (the Messenger) and telling him that he was right, but he went on to say, "Inform me about iman."
_
He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, "It is that you believe in Allah and His angels and His Books and His Messengers and in the Last Day, and in qadar (fate), both in its good and in its evil aspects." He said, "You have spoken truly."
_
Then he (the man) said, "Inform me about Ihsan." He (the Messenger of Allah) answered, "It is that you should serve Allah as though you could see Him, for though you cannot see Him yet (know that) He sees you."

He said, "Inform me about the Hour." He (the Messenger of Allah) said, "About that, the one questioned knows no more than the questioner." So he said, "Well, inform me about the signs thereof." He said, "They are that the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress, that you will see the barefooted, naked, destitute, the herdsmen of the sheep (competing with each other) in raising lofty buildings." Thereupon the man went of. I waited a while, and then he (the Messenger of Allah) said, "O Umar, do you know who that questioner was?" I replied, "Allah and His Messenger know better." He said, "That was Jibril (the Angel Gabriel). He came to teach you your religion."

CONTEMPLATION

‏﴿إِنَّ الَّذينَ أَجرَموا كانوا مِنَ الَّذينَ آمَنوا يَضحَكونَ﴾ [Al-Mutaffifîn: 29]

‏Allah mentions that the disbelievers in this world use to laugh at the believers

‏Then Allah sets a Quranic principle a few verses later

‏﴿فَاليَومَ الَّذينَ آمَنوا مِنَ الكُفّارِ يَضحَكونَ﴾

That in paradise, the believers will be laughing at the criminals and the disbelievers, whilst sitting on thrones looking at the blessings Allah has favoured them with, and also looking at the disbelievers being punished.

Allah mentioned this as a form of blessing, to soothe the hearts of the believers, to remind them, that their turn will come, and they will get the last laugh.

At Tabari mentions in his tafsir, that Ibn Abbas said, the doors between heaven and hell will be opened so that the believers can look into hell whilst on their thrones and see how the disbelievers are being punished, then they’ll start laughing at them, and that will be from the blessings that Allah will bring coolness to their eyes, seeing how Allah has taken revenge against them.

How you play, you will be played.

The disbelievers want a temporary laugh, no problem, we’ll have the eternal laugh.

A laugh that will bring such an amazing feeling of contentment and pleasure.

May Allah make us from the people of Jannah.
"Sometimes I have a certain need that only Allah can fulfil, so I call upon Him. Then I find that the door of dialogue with Allah opens up for me, and I taste the sweetness of discourse with Him, and the joy of knowing Him that far surpasses the urgency of obtaining an answer to my prayer, and so I prefer for the answer to my prayer to be delayed for fear of losing this connection, once my need is fulfilled." As a muslim we believe in the Messengers that came before the Prophet ﷺ and that each messenger was sent with the same message: the foundation, the core of our faith. Yet the people went astray from the message until the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

We now have trials such as numerous sects, opinions and doubts circulating and polluting the message and like previous nations many have gone astray.

We must hold tight to the Qur'an, the Sunnah and the way of the Salaf to ensure we our following Islam in it's entirety so we are not of those who are led astray.

This is why we must ensure this core and foundation is firm.

An-Nu'man bin Bashir (May Allah be pleased with them) reported:

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "Du'a (supplication) is worship." [Abu Dawud]. وعن النعمان بن بشير رضي الله عنهما عن النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قال‏:‏ ‏ "‏الدعاء هو العبادة‏"‌‏.‏ The Muslim should supplicate to Allah (may He be Exalted) with humility and in secret without asking for unlawful things. A person may supplicate to Allah both during Salah and at other occasions, in whatever language they speak. Salah is considered valid even if the person supplicates to Allah (may He be Exalted) in a language other than Arabic. When supplicating to Allah (may He be Exalted) during Salah, a person should use the Du`a’ (supplication) that are authentically reported from the Prophet (peace be upon him) and recite them where and how the Prophet (peace be upon him) recited them so as to follow the example of the Prophet (peace be upon him).

We tend to go over the diseases of the heart as a list but seldom do we diagnose our own hearts with the knowledge we accumulate so that we may work on it's purification. The diseases if the heart are the major since and therefore it is imperative to ensure we do not commit these sins and infect our hearts.
🖤
The heart has a great position in Islam as the heart encompasses tawhid, faith and sincerity. As stated by Ibn Qayyim; 'Actions are distinguished, one from the other, with respect to their excellence in the sight of Allah in accordance with the condition of the heart, not be their number or form, but rather due to the strength of the caller, his or her truthfulness, his or her sincerity and the extent to which he or she prefers Allah over herself.'
🖤
So we at Islamic Back to Basics want to go over this alongside learning about other basics of Islam so we can cleanse our hearts and act on our knowledge in a more productive manner.

We begin this series with firstly understanding that there are three types of hearts in existence and we should strive to be of those with a pure sound heart. Below is paraphrased from the book: Diseases of the Heart by Ibn Taymiyyah (rh):
🖤
"And We did not send before you any messenger or prophet except that when he spoke [or recited], Satan threw into it [some misunderstanding]. But Allah abolishes that which Satan throws in; then Allah makes precise His verses. And Allah is Knowing and Wise. [That is] so He may make what Satan throws in a trial for those within whose hearts is disease and those hard of heart. And indeed, the wrongdoers are in extreme dissension. And so those who were given knowledge may know that it is the truth from your Lord and [therefore] believe in it, and their hearts humbly submit to it. And indeed is Allah the Guide of those who have believed to a straight path." (QURAN | SURAH AL HAJJ | VERSES 52-54)
🖤
These verses mention two types of hearts put to trial and one that is victorious. These hearts are the diseased and hard heart. The victorious heart is the heart of the believer that is humble before its Lord; it is at rest and satisfied with Him, submissive and obedient to Him. The hearts' stepping outside the bounds of steadfastness in obedience could either be due to its dryness and harshness, or absence of doing that which is desired of it. In this way it is like a mute tongue or an eye that cannot see, or only partially see, due to illness or defect. Hence they are classified into three types:
🖤
1. The healthy and sound heart which contains no impediment preventing it from accepting the truth, loving it, and giving it preference other than its coming to know of it. Therefore its comprehension of the truth is correct and accepts it with complete submission.
2. The dead, harsh heart does not accept the truth nor submit to it.
3. The diseased heart, when its diseases predominates, it joins the ranks of the dead and harsh heart, but its soundness predominates, it joins the ranks of the truthful and sound heart.

May Allah subhanahu wa ta'aala purify our hearts, keep them soft and keep us steadfast on Islam Ameen

The sound heart revolves around this basic concept:

The truthful, sound heart is that which is secure from every carnal desire that opposes the order and prohibition of Allah. It is secure from every doubt and uncertainty that would obscure or go against His narrative. It is secure from displaying servitude to any other than Him; just as it is secure from any other ruling that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH). Therefore it becomes sound through loving Allah and seeking the ruling of the His Messenger. It becomes sound through showing Him fear, hope, trust and reliance, pentinence and humility; it prefers what pleases Him in every circumstance and distances itself from everything that would displease Him in every possible way. This is the reality of servitude which can be directed to Allah alone.

Pillars of Iman

The Prophet (saw) said "Iman is seventy odd branches: the highest is to say that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah (Laa Ilaaha Ill-Allah), the lowest is to remove harm from the path; and modesty is a branch of Iman." (Muslim).

What supports this fact is the enthusiasm which a Muslim feels in seasons of good deeds (such as Ramadhan and Hajj) and the slackening a Muslim feels upon committing sins.

Allah subhanahu wa ta'aala says: "Indeed good deeds do away with evil ones." (11:114).
