Agri-food Industrial Park (AIP) has tremendous potential for Cambodia. According to the Cambodian government’s 2022 feasibility study, the AIP is expected to contribute USD 5.1 billion to the Cambodian economy by 2045, and create up to 100,000 new jobs, over half of which will be for women.
Recently, Australia’s flagship economic development program, CAPRED, organised a study visit to Australia for the AIP Committee and Secretariat members. They learnt about government support, public, industry and research linkages for ecosystem building, and the challenges of establishing AIPs.

Since its establishment in 1999, the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF) with the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), have been providing an open and inclusive space for government and businesses to discuss challenges and solutions together.
Australia has been a long-standing supporter of the G-PSF since the early 2000s and worked with the World Bank to develop processes and tools required to make it successful.
We were pleased to meet with H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea, Secretary General of CDC, to introduce our flagship program, CAPRED, and discuss our planned support for the G-PSF.
CAPRED will support the G-PSF to become a sustainable, results oriented platform for public and private sector engagement.

Cleaned piped water provides nourishment, prevents diseases, is great for agriculture and food production and improves sanitation facilities. Access to clean water is essential for enabling women and girls to devote more time to the pursuit of education and income generation.
These are just some of the reasons Australia is supporting Cambodia’s clean piped water development.
Recently, key government agencies and the Cambodian Water Supply Association visited Australia as part of the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED). Today is World Food Safety Day. A day which reminds us that good food standards save lives and support better food security, human health and sustainable development.
Australia is working with Cambodia to lift food safety production and standards through product research and development and legal frameworks.
So far, we have established guidelines for input labelling and package marking model for plant protection products (pesticides and nutrients) to produce food that is safe to eat. We have also helped set up a QR code system for farmers to access information on how to use inputs, verify product quality and avoid potentially harmful counterfeits.
Through our Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) program, we are working on regulations under the Law on Plant Protection and Quarantine, particularly the national standard on Maximum Residue Limits of pesticide residues.
