Seven Reform Priorities to realise the 2030 Vision

Australia is pleased to support the Cambodia Development Resource Institute’s (CDRI) seven recommended reform priorities to implement the government’s Pentagonal Strategy and realise its 2030 Vision and beyond.

The reform priorities include promoting more inclusive and accountable institutions to deliver effective public services, strengthening the Social Protection System, modernising the agricultural sector, sustainably investing in Cambodia’s natural resources, continuing to upgrade and diversify the manufacturing sector, and investing in quality education, skills building, and digital infrastructure.

These reform priorities were generated from the Cambodia Outlook Conference held in Phnom Penh in November 2023 and are part of an on-going research study entitled “Cambodia Vision 2030: An Assessment of Cambodia’s Upper middle-income Target for Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Growth”. Australia is funding both the conference and the research study through its flagship economic development program, the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED).

Supporting sustainable clean water supply in Cambodia

Australia through its flagship development program, the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), is collaborating with the government, private water operators and development partners to increase access to climate resilient clean water supply for rural Cambodians.

People around Boeung Snae in Prey Veng province rely on its water for household use, farming, fishing and tourism. In recent years, the lake has come under increasing pressure from human activities and climate change, leading to water shortages for the community.

CAPRED has supported storage ponds and a water treatment facility to ensure an inclusive and sustainable clean water supply, while preserving the biodiversity in and around the Boeung Snae protected wetland area.

📣 Request Proposals for Energy Study Visit to Australia

CAPRED is seeking a proficient consulting firm to facilitate a study trip to Australia for Cambodian delegates from the MME, EAC, EdC, and CAPRED. The focus of the trip is to gain insights into how Australia maximises the integration of variable renewable energy in its energy mix, and to foster strategic relationships with Australian government agencies, business entities, and academic institutions.

Australia supports Cambodia to propel gender equality and inclusion for small businesses

Gender equality, disability and social Inclusion (GEDSI) is central to Australia’s international development policies and support.

In Cambodia, over 60% of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are owned by women. Yet, women face critical challenges, including limited access to finance and education, gender stereotypes and restricted mobility.

Australia through CAPRED supported the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation to develop its Gender Mainstreaming Action Plan 2023–2028.

Today, Australia and MISTI jointly launched and disseminated the plan to stakeholders and partners. It aims to eradicate barriers and enable Cambodian women, as well as people with disabilities and other marginalised groups, to equally participate in and benefit from economic growth.

Australia and Cambodia Reinforce Partnership for resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic growth through our Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED) Program.

Yesterday, First Secretary Amber Cernovs co-chaired the meeting with H.E. ROS Seilava, Secretary of State, Ministry of Economic and Finance.

The meeting showcased CAPRED’s key strategic priorities and achievements and how these align with the government’s Pentagonal Strategy to address Cambodia’s development challenges. The discussion also focused on climate resilience and building an inclusive economy for all.

In attendance were committee members from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries; the Ministry of Commerce; the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation; and the Ministry of Women’s Affairs.

This first CAPRED Steering Committee meeting underscored Australia’s commitment to partnering with Cambodia in building resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

CAPRED is seeking an Environmental and Climate Change Specialist (ECCS) to integrate climate change considerations and adhere to the 'do no harm' principle for environmental sustainability in all CAPRED portfolios. The ECCS will ensure an effective mainstreaming of CAPRED's Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change (DRRCC) and Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS) approaches.
