Rice is a major business in Cambodia, providing the main source of income for rural farmers and being the country's largest agriculture export commodity.
However, harvesting rice leaves behind significant amounts of straw that farmers must burn or remove to prepare for the next crop, resulting in a reduction in soil organic matter and polluting the environment.
Australia, through the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), is collaborating with private company to pilot rice straw chopper as a solution.
Rice straw choppers are attached to combine harvester, shredding and spreading the straw to enrich soil organic matter and boost yields. This technology has the potential to enhance farming efficiency, reduce emissions, and assist farmers in mitigating and adapting to climate change.

📣 Technical Expert on Agri-food Export Readiness
CAPRED is seeking a technical expert on agri-food export readiness to undertake following tasks:
1. Support CAPRED team to evaluate proposals from eligible agri-food businesses and exporters to export to Australia. This includes rapid assessment of the company's products, markets readiness, export plans, and expected results. The expert is also expected to provide technical recommendations on each proposal for improvement, including an actual need assessment for the selected proposal(s).
2. Conduct a scoping review of the current services (both local and regional) to develop key cost estimates associated with post study mission requests.
3. Develop action plan for scaling up the export readiness mechanism in a sustainable manner. This is expected to identify other best practices on export readiness modality, and essentially potential partners or agencies for export readiness services to SMEs in Cambodia should be identified and CAPRED’s entry point to work with these potential partners/ agencies.
4. Ensure stakeholders will operate within Cowater and DFAT-related codes of conduct and policies including all inclusion-related policies such as Child Protection and PSEAH; antifraud and corruption; value for money and other policies.

Australia's Support for Cambodia's Government–Private Sector Forum (G-PSF).
Yesterday, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over the 19th G-PSF plenary meeting to receive feedback from private sector representatives and discuss mechanisms to address their concerns.
Australia is pleased to be providing technical assistance and support to Cambodia's G-PSF through collaboration with the Council for the Development of Cambodia, the public sector secretariat, and the Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, the private sector secretariat.
Through the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), Australia will continue to provide technical support to the G-PSF to promote best-practice approaches and ensure inclusive participation.

How can Cambodia’s economic growth be resilient, inclusive and sustainable? What obstacles and opportunities lie ahead as Cambodia seeks upper middle-income status by 2030?
Australia through its flagship economic development program, the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), is collaborating with the Cambodia Development Resource Institute CDRI Cambodia to address these questions.
The joint research initiative, “Cambodia Vision 2030: An Assessment of Cambodia’s Upper-Middle-Income Target for Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Growth,” will evaluate Cambodia’s long-term growth potential and identify policies to achieve this growth.
Preliminary study findings will be presented at the Cambodia Outlook Conference on 23 November 2023, presided over by Prime Minister Hun Manet.

CAPRED is seeking a GEDSI Lead to support the work of the Facility Director and the team to work closely with partners, DFAT, and the Royal Government of Cambodia (RGC) to provide technical, policy, and operational advice regarding GEDSI, with a particular focus on women’s empowerment as well as cross-thematic synergies (particularity regarding climate change impacts). The GEDSI Lead will provide the strategic GEDSI advising across the Facility, the team, and partnerships; and will guide the Facility as a leader in progressive GEDSI thought, integration, and programming.
