📣 Over the last decade, Australia has supported Cambodia to provide sustainable, quality electricity services⚡️across the country. Almost 99 percent of rural villages are currently connected to the main electricity grid.

Currently Australia is a contributing partner with the Ministry of Mines and Energy, Electricity Authority of Cambodia, Electricity of Cambodia to connect the last 1 percent of rural villages to reliable electricity from renewable energy sources.

The #CAPRED infrastructure team and national and local authorities visited Sambour district to discuss establishing a solar farm to provide mini off-grid electricity. The team spoke to local authorities and the villagers about the project and potential locations of the solar farm.

Australia is supporting Cambodia through the Agri-food Investment Desk (AFID) to attract investment and develop new markets and income streams.

Recently, CAPRED organised a visit to Australia for 37 Cambodian delegates, including agribusinesses and government stakeholders. The delegates met with investors, supermarket chains, government agencies and business associations to connect with potential buyers and learned about Australian import regulations and the art of pitching products to international audiences.

With established production in quality fruits, vegetables, nuts and grains, Cambodia is well positioned for exporting and co-investing in this high-value market. We hope to see more Cambodian agricultural products on Australian shelves and to continue to strengthen trade and investment between our countries.

CAPRED seeks to engage a consulting company or consortium to support in providing strategic advisory in two
main tasks: (1) designing the ESCO pilot demonstration for agro-processors in some specific sub-sectors including
rice milling, food processing, and animal farming (approximately 10 project owners), and (2) developing and

Infrastructure Bond Guideline Developer Wanted!

CAPRED is seeking to recruit a highly experienced and qualified short-term adviser for the position of Infrastructure Bond Guideline Developer. The selected adviser will support the program and work closely with SERC and relevant stakeholders to update, finalize and disseminate Infrastructure Bond Guideline for Cambodia’s capital market. Where market or regulatory constraints for issuance of infrastructure bonds are identified, the STA will provide recommendations to enable more infrastructure bond issuance.

A list of infrastructure projects potential to proceed for transaction preparation and listing with recommended types of infrastructure bonds is also expected as the result of the stakeholder consultation. The role will be a mixture of home based and travel to Cambodia. This is a short term 6-month position. The Infrastructure Bond Guideline Developer will report to Infrastructure Lead.

Did you know that at least 60% of micro, small, and medium-sized businesses in Cambodia are owned by women? This sector has contributed 58% of the total national gross domestic product.

Australia is supporting women's economic empowerment in Cambodia, and has recently organised a visit to Australia for 14 of Cambodia's leading female entrepreneurs. The entrepreneurs met with business owners, senior government officials, and women's association leaders to exchange knowledge and build professional networks.

“I feel grateful because when I came here, it was confirmed that ‘financial inclusion for women is a key mechanism that helps women to better exercise their rights’. It was motivational, and we were clear that we had done the right things and we will continue doing our job without any hesitation,” said Ms Bonnarath Virak, Co-founder and Program Manager of Lady Saving Group.

Australia backs Cambodia's Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF)

Australia is supporting the inclusive development of a strong private sector in Cambodia - a vibrant private sector is essential for promoting inclusive economic growth and poverty reduction.

Through the Cambodia Australia Partnership for Resilient Economic Development (CAPRED), Australia is working Cambodia Chamber of Commerce, The Council for the Development of Cambodia and other stakeholders to improve the effectiveness of the Government-Private Sector Forum (G-PSF). The G-PSF is the peak platform for dialogue between the government and private sector in Cambodia.

Recent discussions between Australia, CAPRED and the CCC have focused on ways to improve the G-PSF to make it inclusive and results oriented. In particular, support will be provided to strengthen the 14 technical Working Groups at the national level and support public and private sector dialogue at the provincial levels.
