Australia is supporting Cambodia to expand access to reliable, inclusive and climate-resilient water services. We are building the capacity of the Cambodian water sector stakeholders through knowledge exchange opportunities with Australian and regional water sector leaders.

Recently we supported representatives from the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation, Stung Treng Water Utility and Svay Rieng Water Utility to participate in Australia’s largest water sector conference – Ozwater’26 in Brisbane.

Cambodian delegates had the opportunity to explore climate-resilient water management, smart technologies, digital transformation and sustainable service delivery.

Australia remains committed to working with Cambodia to strengthen water services and resilience nationwide and advance the national goal of universal access to clean water by 2030.

Australia Raises Aid to Region and Cambodia, Citing Influence and Responsibility

Australia has increased its aid to Cambodia as part of its push to increase ties across the region, raising its official development assistance in Southeast Asia to $1.4 billion.

For Cambodia, Australian aid in the 2026-2027 budget period is estimated at $94.4 million, up from $87.8 million in the previous budget.

Australia improves energy security for Indigenous coffee farmers in Mondulkiri

Smallholder coffee farmers in remote areas are amongst the most vulnerable to the impact of climate change and rising energy costs. Many have traditionally relied on diesel-powered irrigation systems. Recent price increases linked to global supply chain disruptions have placed growing pressure on household incomes and farm viability.

Australia is partnering with local coffee processor KOFI to help Bunong Indigenous coffee farmers in Mondulkiri adopt solar-powered irrigation systems. This initiative helps farmers access clean and reliable energy solutions, reducing operating costs and dependence on imported fuel while supporting more sustainable coffee production.

Through initiatives like this, Australia is helping to build food and energy security, enhance climate resilience and support rural livelihoods in Cambodia so that all communities can benefit from sustainable economic growth.

🐄 More Australian cows for Cambodia’s growing diary industry 🇰🇭🇦🇺

No, you’re not experiencing déjà-moo!

Six years ago, 550 Australian Holstein cows arrived in Cambodia to help establish the country’s first large-scale commercial dairy farm, Kirisu Farm. Another 220 have now arrived in Cambodia as part of Kirisu’s efforts to expand production.

Australia has worked with Kirisu to make this expansion possible through support from Australia’s economic development program #CAPRED.

Yesterday, Ambassador Yip visited Kirisu Farm in Takeo to welcome the Australian heifers. Their arrival brings the size of the Kirisu herd to around 1,400. Because of this, more fresh milk can be produced here in Cambodia, helping to meet growing demand and reduce reliance on imports, while creating jobs and new opportunities across the dairy value chain.

Our partnership with Kirisu is a great example of how Australia and Cambodia are working together to grow new industries, expand trade, boost food security and create a healthier, more prosperous Cambodia.

Australia backs Cambodian producers to boost food security

Cambodia has long relied on imports for many cooking essentials, from fresh milk and instant noodles to seasonings and sauces. Australia is partnering with local producers to expand domestic production – reducing import reliance and building more resilient food systems.

Our support to LEANG LENG Fish Sauce is helping establish new sauce processing facilities, creating a bigger market for local green mussels, a key ingredient for food sauces. This is expected to increase demand from 72 tonnes to over 950 tonnes per year, supporting the incomes of at least 90 households in the Peam Krosoap fishing community.

We are also connecting Cambodian-made products with major distributors so they can reach more supermarket shelves across the country.

By supporting local producers, Australia is helping Cambodia build a more self-reliant food system, while creating jobs, supporting rural livelihoods and driving a more resilient economy.
