New rice export deal boosts Australia–Cambodia trade ties

Bilateral trade and investment links between Australia and Cambodia are growing. Trade between Cambodia and Australia reached US$1.2 billion in 2025 with around US$850 million million coming from Cambodia exports.

Today Ambassador Yip celebrated a new trade deal between Amru Rice and Australia’s Green Group by joining Amru Rice Co-founder and CEO Oknha Song Saran to send off two container loads of premium Cambodian rice to Australia. Many more containers will follow.

With Australia’s support, Amru and other Cambodian agri-businesses, are able to expand and access new export markets.

We are growing two-way trade, creating more jobs and driving inclusive and sustainable economic growth, while creating even more economic ties between our two countries that can be expanded into the future.

Working to Boost Trade and Investment Between Australia and Cambodia

Australia’s resources and energy partnership with Cambodia is going from strength to strength, and there’s opportunity to expand this further.

Today, Ambassador Yip met HE Keo Rottanak, Minister of Mines and Energy, to discuss outcomes from the Minister’s recent visit to Australia, and future areas of collaboration.

They also discussed Australia’s ambitions to grow trade and investment ties with Southeast Asia under Australia’s Southeast Asia Economic Strategy, and how Minister Rottanak’s new role as Third Vice Chair of the Council for the Development of Cambodia can help support this.

Australia boosts resilient agriculture in Cambodia

Australia is helping Cambodian farmers to boost production by linking international suppliers of innovative, climate-friendly solutions with local businesses.

SELVITA produces Australian-made animal nutrients products that are now being trialled in Cambodia. These products are made from wild carp, an invasive species damaging freshwater ecosystems in Australia.

The products allow farmers to boost crop yields and livestock growth while reducing reliance on synthetic fertilisers and returning nutrients to the soil, enhancing long-term climate resilience.

Australia helped link Australian companies like SELVITA with Cambodian distributors including through agrifood events such as the Cambodia Agriculture Forum & Exhibition 2025 (CAFE25) to advance a sustainable, competitive agricultural sector in Cambodia.

Australia advances clean water partnership with Cambodia

Australia is committed to working with Cambodia to achieve universal access to safe, clean water by 2030 – improving public health, strengthening climate resilience, and expanding economic opportunities.

Australia recently supported the Cambodian Water Supply Association’s (CWA’s) 14th General Assembly, where private water operators, technology suppliers and the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology & Innovation came together to advance the CWA Strategic Action Plan 2025–2030, developed in partnership with the Australian Water Association.

Australia has partnered to strengthen Cambodia’s water sector for more than a decade. This work enhances public and private water utilities, provides career growth for young water engineers, and extends clean water access in rural Cambodia.

Building a strong and inclusive clean water workforce

On World Water Day, we celebrate advancements in Cambodia’s clean water sector achieved through Australia’s support for skills development and career path options for young engineers.

The Australia-funded Young Water Engineer Internship Program, delivered by the Cambodia Water Supply Association, helps address gender imbalances in the sector and improve services for local communities.

Seng Sreynang, a water and environmental engineering graduate, recently completed a five-month placement at Lengkheav Prek Ambel Water Station in Kandal Province. Sreynang was able to gain practical experience and apply her technical knowledge to improve water quality and reduce losses for the station.

Elevating Cambodia’s agri-food competitiveness

Australia is partnering with Khmer Enterprise to support small and medium agri-food enterprises to grow their operations and share more Cambodian products with the world.

Dried fruit producer HESED Agricultural Trading was able to expand production by 22 per cent, thanks to equipment upgrades.

In 2025, HESED received the prestigious 3-star Great Taste Award for its dried mango.

Australia works with Cambodia to advance the agri-food sector, boost exports and enable businesses to thrive – driving resilient, inclusive and sustainable economic growth. 📈

Bringing indigenous stories to the world

Stop by Legend Exchange Square today for a screening of acclaimed Australian film “Boodjara” at 8:15 pm under the WORLD INDIGENOUS program. “Boodjara”, meaning country or belonging to, shines a spotlight on First Nations Australians, the world’s oldest continuous living culture.

It follows a group of Noongar people on a powerful journey to revive their language, reclaim ancestral placenames, and reconnect with stories and lore embedded in the land.
