Air Transat, pilots' union have reached tentative deal to avert strike, airline's parent company says

Air Transat's parent company says it has steered clear of a strike after reaching a tentative deal with pilots Tuesday evening.

The leisure airline had been cancelling flights and winding down operations ahead of the possible work stoppage, affecting thousands of travellers.

In a news release, Transat A.T. Inc. said the agreement "lifts the risk of a strike and now allows its customers to travel with peace of mind."

Ingonish fishermen warn sewer outfall could hurt harbour livelihoods

Fishermen in Ingonish Ferry, Nova Scotia say a new sewer‑outfall pipe dumping treated wastewater into their harbour threatens lobster traps, storage pounds, and the wider marine ecosystem — arguing the water there doesn’t flush out properly and the warmed effluent risks killing shellfish.

Who won this week's parliamentary pipeline game? Maybe no one

When the Conservatives tabled a motion asking the House of Commons to "take note" of the memorandum of understanding signed between the federal and Alberta governments and express its support for the construction of a pipeline, the Official Opposition presumably hoped, one way or another, to make trouble for the Liberal government.

According to the logic of these things, the Liberals only had two bad options.

If Mark Carney and his cabinet decided to vote in support of the motion, they no doubt risked highlighting dissent about a pipeline among Liberal backbenchers. At the very least, it is hard to imagine how Steven Guilbeault could have supported the Conservative motion.

Toronto police ID killer in 3 homicide cold cases involving young women

Toronto police have solved three cold-case murders using investigative genetic genealogy, identifying deceased suspect Kenneth Smith as the killer of three women murdered between 1982 and 1997. Detectives linked the cases through DNA in 2016 and 2017, and genealogy analysis confirmed Smith in 2025. Police believe he may be connected to other deaths and are continuing to investigate.

Longueuil, Que., police chief allegedly gave police watchdog erroneous information about fatal teen shooting

The chief of the Longueuil, Que., police force allegedly gave erroneous information about the fatal police shooting of a 15-year-old to Quebec’s police watchdog, according to documents.

Now, Catherine Fournier, the mayor of the South Shore municipality, is asking for the Quebec public security minister to investigate the chief of police, Patrick Bélanger, and the Longueuil police force.

Nooran Rezayi, a high school student, was shot and killed in September after police responded to a 911 call reporting a group of armed people in a Longueuil neighbourhood.

Flooding in B.C.'s Fraser Valley expected to peak Friday, with more rain on the way

Flooding in B.C.’s Fraser Valley from overflow of Washington’s Nooksack River is expected to peak Friday. Highway 1 remains closed in both directions, around 500 properties in Abbotsford are under evacuation order, and 1,000 more are on alert. All schools in Abbotsford and Chilliwack are closed for the day. Environment Canada warns another wet weather system will arrive Saturday night. A flood warning continues for the Sumas River, though warnings for the lower Fraser River have ended. Water levels are receding in Washington, but northward-moving floodwaters will keep rising in B.C. until Friday morning.

Gordie Howe bridge Canadian border officers work elsewhere as they await opening

While the opening date of the Gordie Howe International Bridge remains a mystery for travellers, it also does for the people who’ll patrol the third border crossing linking Windsor, Ont., and Detroit, Mich.

The opening has been delayed multiple times — most recently from the fall of 2025 to early in 2026. In the summer, Windsor West MP Harb Gill said the public deserved answers on when it would open calling it a “vital economic lifeline for Windsor and Canada.”

More than 200 front-line Canadian border staff are being hired, however, exact numbers aren’t yet known, according to Stephanie Robichaud.

DND launches probe into leak of classified fighter jet data to CBC/Radio-Canada

The Department of National Defence has launched an internal investigation into the leak of confidential data from the technical competition between the two fighter jets vying to replace Canada's CF-18 fleet.

Previously unpublished data obtained by CBC/Radio-Canada last month showed the American-built Lockheed Martin F-35 had a considerable lead during the technical competition over the Gripen, manufactured by Sweden-based Saab.

The leak fuelled the ongoing debate over the government's decision to either proceed with the purchase of a full fleet of 88 F-35s, or instead acquire a mixed fleet of both F-35s and Gripens.
