Firefighters used buckets to remove water until city crews shut off the water line. Village steps up to help bakery owners through health challenges
Myroslava Mykytyn and Isaac Fouchard, owners of the Black Walnut Bakery in Ottawa's east end, have received overwhelming support from the community after learning that two of their children have a rare disorder called Sjögren-Larsson syndrome (SLS). Their six-year-old son Caleb and four-year-old son Elias have the genetic disease, which causes physical and intellectual disabilities, as well as extremely dry skin. The community organized a fundraiser that raised $16,254 to help the family with the cost of mobility devices for the two boys.
