A group helping single parents in Newfoundland and Labrador says the provincial government's poverty reduction plan is off to a good start, as demand for their services skyrockets and new faces come through the door.

Montreal police investigating after at least 16 Metro stations vandalised 👮♂️
Montreal police are investigating a string of vandalism incidents overnight at more than a dozen Metro stations across the city.
At least 16 different stations were targeted, Montreal's transit authority (STM) confirmed. Doors, walls and some bus stops at the stations were plastered with pro-Palestinian posters and some graffiti.⚠️
Many posters read, "Genocide in Palestine, Canada complicit" and some of the graffiti calls for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, as the destruction and death toll in Gaza continues to rise. Posters also advertise another protest in support of people in Gaza this Sunday. 📄

Austin Lathlin-Bercier, a 25-year-old man from Opaskwayak Cree Nation in northern Manitoba, has died while fighting alongside the Ukrainian army against Russian forces. His family received the news of his death after being told he had been missing for two days. The family was informed that his body was found, but ongoing battles in the area make it challenging to extract him immediately. Polls close in N.W.T. territorial election
Residents in most of the Northwest Territories (N.W.T.) ridings have concluded voting, determining the composition of the territory's 20th Legislative Assembly. Polls opened in 16 of the 19 ridings, with three candidates acclaimed. In Dettah, polls remained open until 8:26 p.m. due to a delayed opening. The election, originally scheduled for October 3, was postponed in August due to wildfires and evacuations. Out of 25,856 registered voters, 2,382 had already cast ballots by Friday. Ottawa told a permanent resident his wife couldn't evacuate from Gaza. Then his lawyer filed a lawsuit 👨⚖️
Getting the spouse of a Canadian permanent resident out of Gaza required the threat of a lawsuit, according to emails between a lawyer and Canadian officials seen by CBC News. This after Ottawa told the wife she could not leave the besieged territory without being accompanied by her husband, who is in Vancouver. Randall Cohn is a Vancouver-based immigration lawyer whose client's spouse is Palestinian and living in Gaza. She was awaiting a visa to live with her husband in Canada when the war broke out.
