Sask. Party Leader Scott Moe retains seat, CBC projects

CBC is projecting that Saskatchewan Party Leader Scott Moe will retain his seat in the Rosthern-Shellbrook constituency.

He was first elected to the Saskatchewan legislature in 2011 and became premier in 2018.

Early results for Saskatchewan's 2024 provincial election are coming in.

CBC will continue populating this page with live results as soon as they come in from Elections Saskatchewan.

There are 61 seats in the Legislature, which means a party needs 31 ridings to form a majority government.

Man stabbed to death in Vanier

A man was stabbed to death in Vanier near the southern border of the Beechwood Cemetery Monday night, according to Ottawa emergency crews.  Ottawa police said on social media they were called to a reported stabbing on Ste. Monique Street shortly before 8 p.m. Paramedics told CBC a man was stabbed and critically injured. 

That unnamed man died, police said. They also said one person is in custody without providing further details. The scene is about three kilometres east of the city core.

The federal government has introduced legislation that would require charities providing reproductive health services to state clearly whether they offer abortion or abortion referrals.

Organizations that fail to clearly tell their clients whether they provide these services could risk losing their charitable status.

Marci Ien, the minister for women and gender equality, said Tuesday the legislation is meant to combat the spread of "misinformation" by some charities.

Community vigil mourns death of Ottawa femicide victim

Community members braved the rain on Tuesday night to share their grief over the killing of Brkti Berhe, a 36-year-old mother who was stabbed to death in front of two of her young children.

At least 200 people attended the gathering at Paul Landry Park, the same park where Berhe was killed last week. Attendees included people who knew Berhe, as well as Mayor Mark Sutcliffe and River Ward Coun. Riley Brockington, who represents the area. As a few onlookers cried, attendees placed flowers and candles near a rock that has been turned into a makeshift memorial for Berhe.

With the exception of Saskatchewan's most northern constituencies, the Saskatchewan Party is either leading or projected to win in all ridings outside the province's largest cities in the 2024 provincial election.

The NDP, meanwhile, is either leading or projected to win nearly all Regina and Saskatoon ridings, ousting several veteran cabinet ministers in the process.

Despite that, projected premier-designate Scott Moe said he disagrees that the election demonstrates an urban-rural divide in the province.

Edmonton homelessness numbers surge toward 5,000, highest recorded since at least 2019

The number of people experiencing homelessness in Edmonton, as counted by Homeward Trust, has increased by nearly 2,000 in the past year, up to 4,697 in September.

That figure includes people staying in shelters, those without any shelter, and those who have provisional accommodation, such as couch-surfing, but no stable housing. The numbers for each of those categories, as well as the total, are the highest recorded since at least 2019.

1 arrested, 1 at large following shooting into B.C. home of Punjabi musician AP Dhillon

Police are investigating a September shooting and arson incident at the home of singer and music producer AP Dhillon in Colwood, B.C.
