1 PhD-Position in Neural Language Generation
We invite applications for one PhD student position in natural language generation or summarization. The goal of this position is to develop a system for text generation that is tailored at the discourse level to the user (in terms of e.g., verbosity of what is explained, vocabulary usage, explicitness of coherence relations). To this end, the generation system will model language understanding in the human user, and tailor its production accordingly.
The position, to be established in the group "Computer Science and Computational Linguistics" (Prof. Vera Demberg), is part of the newly funded ERC Starting Grant project "Individualized Interaction in Discourse" (IDDISC). Project IDDISC aims at more adaptive language interaction at the discourse level, including personalized summaries or instructions. There will also be the opportunity to closely collaborate with researchers working on the DFG-funded Collaborative Research Center on Information Density and Linguistic Encoding (SFB 1102).
Candidates for this position should have a master's degree in computational linguistics, computer science or a related discipline. Experience with machine learning including deep learning is expected. The research will be conducted in English.

The Department of Computer Science at California State University, Northridge seeks a highly motivated post-doctoral scientist who wishes to pursue innovative research and development opportunities in the Deep Learning Analytics.
The candidate should hold a PhD degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related field. The candidate should have demonstrated expertise in one of the areas including microservices, container-based cloud computing, cybersecurity, and IoT, as well as in deep learning. Other skill sets required for this position include ability to manage and initiate research project, excellent oral and written communication skills, and a demonstrable ability to learn new ideas.
The initial appointment of this position will be for one year with the option for renewal for the second year based upon the candidate’s performance during the postdoctoral position. Major responsibilities for this position include designing and developing microservice-based deep learning analytics platform to address challenging problems such as prediction of soil moisture, detection of unknown threats in microservices-based cloud, etc., documenting the research activities, and writing research papers. The candidate will also be required to assist advisor by writing a part of proposals for research projects.
The anticipated salary is $62,400 per year.
