Exactly .... The IP address they allow has been censored ....it's easy to determine a country from IP addresses

So now to bypass these restrictions :one of the ways we do that is through VPNs

VPN service providers are like business owners that buys alot of IP address in different companies .

They have them in bulk .... Sometimes they do that by setting up servers in different companies .....

Let me explain this better , say I cHowTV wants to start a VPN company , I can buy servers (computers) all over .... Probably buy one in USA , germany, ghana , nigeria , and co ..... Each of these computers has an IP address (hypothetically ) .... Now a customer want to access a site in germany from nigeria , but the website doesn't allow IPs from Nigeria ....he can come to me as a client and ask access to my computer in Germany , now I can allow him to connect with my computer in germany which in turn connects to the site he wants access to

Now, the website will only see the IP address of the germany computer , not that of the person using it from nigeria

VPN works in the Operating system level ..... That means it routes all hour through that Russian server.

But we have different kind of proxies,

Http proxy for instance will only route you website traffic

That means if you need anything aside a webpage it will show your real IP address

Socks proxies are for application layer

They can be used for games , video streaming app like zoom ,that can change your IP address

But a thing to note is ....VPN encrypts your data , proxy doesn't !!! .....

When you access that germany website .... Your traffic is traveling through an encryption tunnel , no one will be able to sniff it even if you are on the same network and they are performing a Man in the middle attack

An advantage of proxy is chaining .....

I can connect to different nodes all over the world ..... Connect to a server In ghana then connect that server to SA then connect that to new york then connect that to germany website ..... The germany website will only see the IPj address of new york .... When it tries to trace it back to the original source , the wahala itself will make it stop

You can even make it bounce all over the world
