Heads up everyone, something strange is happening to Telegram that can VERY SERIOUSLY affect your security. At first I thought it was merely an isolated incident but when something too similar to be a coincidence happened to someone else, it seems now that there's a security breech in Telegram that directly affects users' security settings, including who sees your telephone number.
The first thing that happened was that I was able to find someone's account from a forwarded message even though they had that function disabled for their account. At first I didn't think much of it, after all we all make mistakes.
But then someone else's number randomly showed up for me as I was having a conversation with them. I asked them why they shared their contact information with me, and after some conversation they showed a screenshot very clearly showing that their number was set to be shown to nobody.
If you use a personal phone number for your Telegram account and value your personal security, get a burner phone or a VoIP number and switch to it ASAP!

rule no. 2
Be nice. Don’t mention laws, the constitution, or any of the lucubrations of another age to us anymore. Some time ago, as you will have noticed, we passed certain laws that put us above the laws, and the rest of the so-called “constitution.”

You’re weak, isolated, stupid, abused. We are numerous, organized, strong, and enlightened. Some might say we’re a mafia; that’s a lie — we are THE mafia, the one that’s won out over all the others. We alone are able to protect you from the chaos of the world. And that’s why it pleases us so greatly to make you think you’re weak, to make you believe you are “insecure.” That’s what makes our racket profitable.

For you, the game will consist in you escaping, or at least trying to escape. By escaping we mean: going beyond your dependent state. For now, it’s true, you do depend on us in all aspects of your life. You eat what we produce, you breathe what we pollute, you’re at our mercy for the slightest tooth decay and above all you can’t do anything against the sovereignty of our police forces, which we have given the full range of powers both in terms of discretion and action.

The increasing presence of these doorbell cameras are a dangerous expansion of corporate spying and the panoptic surveillance state. The two reinforce each other, with Ring partnering with over 1,000 police departments to provide footage in bulk to law enforcement without warrants or oversight. Recently, even more troubling programs have began to allow police departments and other law enforcement to constantly livestream feeds from residents’ doorbell cameras, threatening to create a live surveillance network in residential neighborhoods, with a camera watching you from every door. Now is the time to fight back.
