A federal judge has temporarily blocked Paramount Skydance from closing its $110 billion takeover of Warner Bros. Discovery after 12 state attorneys general secured an emergency restraining order.

The order will remain in effect for 14 days while the states argue the merger would reduce competition across movie distribution, streaming, cable, and satellite markets, potentially leading to higher prices and fewer choices for consumers.

Paramount said it will vigorously defend the deal, noting that it has already received approval from the U.S. Justice Department and regulators in several other countries.
