CUOMO SCANDAL: A report from the Albany Times Union alleges that the newly finished $3.9 billion Mario M. Cuomo Bridge (Tappan Zee) contains dozens of broken bolts.

James S. McNall, the project's safety manager and now whistleblower, first discovered the flaws.
The report alleges that the construction company "may have committed fraud by concealing the fact that large numbers of bolts had been breaking due to either improper installation techniques, manufacturing defects, or both."
NY Assistant Attorney General David E. Farber managed the bridge investigation (tasked by Barbara Underwood, a then-AG Cuomo appointee). "Under Farber the office became more adversarial with the whistleblower's legal team and concerned about leaks."
The NY AG's office settled with the construction company in a partially-unsealed case which effectively ignores the safety concerns of the bridge.
