💢 SERVICES FOR OBTAINING RUSSIAN CITIZENSHIP

The law provides for several grounds for obtaining Russian citizenship.
Citizenship in Russia can be obtained under the general procedure, simplified procedure, and in exceptional cases. Let's consider each option.

😀 General procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship (if you have a permanent residence permit)

✔️ The general procedure involves obtaining Russian citizenship after 5 years of residence in Russia on the basis of a VNZh.
✔️ It does not matter on what legal grounds the permanent residence permit was previously obtained.
✔️ Presidential Decree №821 of 05.11.2025 on the military contract APPLIES to men aged 18-65 under this legal ground.

You can learn more about the service for obtaining Russian citizenship under the general procedure here.

😀 Simplified procedure for obtaining Russian citizenship (if you have a VNZh)

The simplified procedure involves obtaining Russian citizenship immediately after receiving the VNZh, that is, it is not required to live with a Permanent Residence Permit for 5 years.
Grounds for simplified acquisition of Russian citizenship:
1. were born or permanently resided on the territory of the RSFSR and were citizens of the USSR;

2. have relatives in the direct ascending line who were born or permanently resided on the territory of the RSFSR or territory that belonged to the Russian Empire or the USSR, within the State Border of the Russian Federation;

3. have at least one parent (adoptive parent) who is a citizen of the Russian Federation and resides in the Russian Federation;

4. have a son or daughter who is a citizen of the Russian Federation and resides in the Russian Federation;

5. are married to a citizen of the Russian Federation residing in the Russian Federation and have a common child, including an adopted one;

6. have successfully completed in the Russian Federation a state-accredited full-time higher education program and received a document on education and qualification with distinction;

7. have received professional education in Russian educational or scientific organizations located on its territory and have been engaged in labor activity in the Russian Federation in relevant specialties for a total of at least one year prior to the date of submitting the application for admission to Russian citizenship;

8. are stateless persons, but were previously citizens of the USSR.

Presidential Decree №821 of 05.11.2025 on the military contract APPLIES to men aged 18-65 for grounds №3, 4, 5.

You can learn more about the service for obtaining Russian citizenship under the simplified procedure here.

😀 Obtaining Russian citizenship under the resettlement / repatriation program

This program allows the settler / repatriate and members of his family to immediately obtain Russian citizenship, bypassing the stage of RVP / VNZh.

To obtain citizenship through this path, it is required to confirm knowledge of the Russian language at the "Citizenship" level.

😀 Obtaining Russian citizenship on the basis of a military contract

If a foreign citizen has signed a contract for military service for at least 1 year, then after serving 12 or more months, the foreigner and members of his family acquire the right to obtain Russian citizenship, bypassing the VNZh stage.

Confirming knowledge of the Russian language is not required.

You can learn more about the service for obtaining Russian Citizenship by concluding a military contract here.

😀 Obtaining Russian citizenship in exceptional cases based on a Decree of the President of Russia

This norm is enshrined in the Federal Law on Russian Citizenship and provides for obtaining Russian citizenship in case of making a significant contribution to the development of science, culture, education, sports, technology, or other spheres.
