1. Report by the OECD based on the Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA)
2. Core Finding: Students who regularly use artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots for schoolwork underperform academically compared to those who rarely or never use them.
3. Bypassing the "Productive Cognitive Struggle": Learning requires mental friction and engagement with new material. Over-relying on generative AI short-circuits this cognitive struggle, leading to passive content consumption rather than deep understanding.
4. "Scaffold vs. Crutch" Principle: As noted by OECD Director Andreas Schleicher:
Scaffold (Constructive): Technology should aid, structure, or enhance the thinking process.
Crutch (Detrimental): Using AI to generate answers or bypass baseline problem-solving impairs foundational cognitive and analytical development.

Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs)
1. Dedicated Freight Corridors (DFCs) are high-capacity, electrified broad-gauge railway corridors dedicated to freight movement, reducing congestion on passenger routes and logistics costs.
2. DFCCIL (Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd.) was incorporated in 2006 as a Special Purpose Vehicle under the Ministry of Railways for implementation of DFCs.
3. Two DFCs are fully commissioned - total 2,843 km:
• Eastern DFC (EDFC): 1,337 km - Ludhiana (Punjab) to Sonnagar (Bihar); mainly coal, minerals and other bulk freight; major external funding by World Bank.
• Western DFC (WDFC): 1,506 km - Dadri (Uttar Pradesh) to JNPT, Navi Mumbai; important for container/EXIM traffic and connectivity with western ports; funded substantially by JICA, Japan.
4. EDFC track configuration: Sonnagar–Dadri (936 km) = electrified double line; Ludhiana–Khurja (401 km) = electrified single line.
5. WDFC is designed for double-stack container trains and links the northern hinterland with major western ports such as JNPT, Mundra, Pipavav and Kandla/Deendayal Port.
6. Technical features: maximum permissible speed 100 km/h; axle load 25 tonnes; long-haul freight trains can carry up to about 13,000 tonnes; automatic signalling and train-radio communication.
7. Bihar Focus: EDFC passes through Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad and Gaya districts; Sonnagar is the eastern terminal of the presently commissioned EDFC.
8. New DFC (Union Budget 2026): Dankuni (West Bengal)–Surat (Gujarat), about 2,052 km; currently at DPR preparation/updation stage, hence not operational.
9. Other proposed/DPR-stage corridors: East Coast (Kharagpur–Vijayawada), East–West and North–South (Vijayawada–Nagpur–Itarsi) —> do not confuse these with the two commissioned DFCs.
