Amrit Kund is a sacred tank located within the Trimbakeshwar Temple complex, near the source of the Godavari River.
During desilting, the ASI Archaeological Survey of India discovered a stone Shivling at the bottom of the ~65-foot-deep Amrit Kund.
Trimbakeshwar Temple is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas dedicated to Lord Shiva.
Brahmagiri Hills are regarded as the origin of the Godavari River, India's second-longest river.
The discovery comes ahead of the 2027 Simhastha Kumbh Mela, to be held in the Nashik–Trimbak region.
