• C295 is a medium tactical military transport aircraft developed by Airbus.
• India signed a deal for 56 C295 aircraft to replace the ageing Avro HS-748 fleet of the Indian Air Force.
• 16 aircraft to be delivered in fly-away condition from Spain; 40 aircraft to be manufactured in India.
• Manufactured at the Final Assembly Line (FAL), Vadodara, Gujarat.
• First military aircraft to be manufactured in India by a private sector consortium (Airbus–Tata Advanced Systems Limited).
• Major initiative under Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat.
• Capable of troop transport, cargo transport, medical evacuation, paradropping, and special missions.
• Can operate from short and unprepared airstrips.
• First Made-in-India C295 completed its maiden test flight from Vadodara (2026).
