NASA Moon Base Plan
1. 2028 – Planned return of astronauts to the Moon’s surface under Artemis IV.
2. Phase I (2025–2028) – Testing technologies and preparing for sustained lunar surface operations.
3. Phase II (2029–2032) – Construction of permanent lunar infrastructure, including a power grid, habitats and support systems.
4. Phase III (2033 onwards) – Routine crew rotations and continuous human presence/activity on the Moon.

-Shackleton Crater, near the lunar south pole, is a key target area for future Artemis missions and lunar base planning.

-Artemis II is the first crewed lunar flyby mission of the Artemis programme; it will not land on the Moon.

-Artemis III is planned to be the first mission to land astronauts on the Moon since Apollo 17 (1972).

-Blue Moon Mark 1 is a lunar lander developed by Blue Origin for cargo delivery to the Moon. Blue Moon Mark 1 is expected to support Artemis missions by transporting equipment and supplies to the lunar surface.

Stealth Technology

Stealth technology is the technology of reducing the detectability of a military platform (aircraft, ship, missile, submarine) by radar, infrared, acoustic, visual and electromagnetic sensors.

• It works by reducing the Radar Cross Section (RCS) —> the measure of how much radar energy is reflected back to the radar.

Major techniques:
• Special angular shaping to deflect radar waves away.
Radar Absorbing Materials (RAM) coating.
• Reduction of infrared signature from engine exhaust.
• Reduction of electronic emissions.

Stealth does not mean invisible. It only delays detection, tracking and targeting.

Stealth aircraft can still be detected by:
• Low-frequency (VHF/UHF) radars,
• Infrared Search and Track (IRST) systems,
• Multi-static radar networks.

Mission SANA

Mission SANA launched India’s first indigenous super-pressure stratospheric balloon platform (VISTA) from Indira Gandhi Stadium, Vijayawada.

Altitude: ~25 km above Earth (in the stratosphere/near-space region).

• India joined a select group of nations with indigenous stratospheric hydrogen balloon capability- USA, France, Japan, China, and India.

Developer: Red Balloon Aerospace.

Key Advantage: Can remain at a fixed altitude for weeks to months, unlike conventional balloons.

Applications: Telecommunications, Earth observation, disaster management, surveillance, and navigation support. The balloon uses hydrogen as the lifting gas, making it a stratospheric hydrogen balloon system.

Exam Fact: The near-space region generally lies between 20 km and 100 km altitude; VISTA operates in the lower part of this region. Aircraft usually operate below 10 km, while most satellites orbit above 160 km, creating a capability gap that near-space platforms can fill.

Polymer ₹ Notes (RBI)

• RBI is considering polymer (plastic substrate) banknotes due to lower production cost and higher shelf life than paper notes.

Primary objective of polymer notes: Increase durability/shelf life and reduce counterfeiting.

Australia became the first country to introduce polymer banknotes, starting with a $10 note in 1988.

Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016:

Insolvency is a financial condition in which a person, company, or institution is unable to pay its debts when they become due.

Bankruptcy is the legal process through which the assets of an insolvent debtor are reorganized or liquidated to settle claims of creditors.

• Thus, insolvency is a financial state, whereas bankruptcy is the legal remedy/process arising from that state.

• The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016 provides a time-bound framework for resolving insolvency through the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP).

• The insolvency ecosystem is regulated by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), while corporate insolvency cases are adjudicated by the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT).

Under IBC, an insolvent company may either:
• be revived through an approved resolution plan, or
• undergo liquidation if resolution is not possible.
