• India withdrew from RCEP negotiations in 2019 due to concerns over:

– Widening trade deficit
– Inadequate safeguards for domestic industry & agriculture

• RCEP officially came into force on 1 January 2022.

• RCEP is the first FTA connecting China, Japan and South Korea in a single trade framework.

Marco Polo referred to Buddha as “Sogomon Barchan”; early European accounts often distorted Buddhist names and concepts.

Sir William Jones proposed Buddha as an incarnation of Vishnu and even speculated African origins - reflecting early Orientalist interpretations.

Edwin Arnold’s The Light of Asia (1879) popularised Buddha in the West as a rational, compassionate “Eastern Christ”.
