Did you know 25% of plant and animal species are threatened with extinction, driven in part by illegal trade and over-exploitation

Biodiversity is key to human societies. It gives us the food in our fridges, the water in our taps and the clothes on our backs. It underpins the future of all life on the planet.

This week, countries are meeting to make decisions on CITES, the Convention that helps protect more than 40,900 species of wild animals and plants and regulates their trade.

The Ministry of Tribal Affairs launched the beta version of its Adi Vaani Adivasi language translation
application.

—> Adi Vaani is India’s first AI-powered translator for tribal languages.

—> It is designed to bridge communication gaps between tribal and non-tribal communities and also safeguard endangered tribal languages using advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI).

—> Foundation to Educate Girls Globally (popularly known as Educate Girls) became the first Indian
organisation to win the Ramon Magsaysay Award, Asia’s most prestigious public service honour.

ƒ- Shaahina Ali (Maldives): Grassroots environmentalist fighting plastic pollution.
- Flaviano Antonio L. Villanueva (Philippines): Priest supporting families of extrajudicial killing victims.

—> Past Indian Recipients (Individuals): Vinoba Bhave, Arvind Kejriwal, Ravish Kumar, Bezwada Wilson, Sonam Wangchuk, among others.

—> Acharya Vinoba Bhave was the first Indian recipient of the Ramon Magsaysay Award in 1958.

—> Ramon Magsaysay Award was established by Trustees of the Rockefeller Brothers Fund (US) and the Philippine Government in 1957.

—> It is considered Asia’s Nobel Prize, recognising leadership, public service, and community impact.
