Radiative forcing is what happens when the amount of energy that enters the Earth’s atmosphere is different from the amount of energy that leaves it. Energy travels in the form of radiation: incoming solar radiation as short wave radiation entering the atmosphere, and longwave infrared radiation exiting as heat.
🕸️The Global Warming Potential (GWP) was developed to allow comparisons of the global warming impacts of different gases. Specifically, it is a measure of how much energy the emissions of 1 ton of a gas will absorb over a given period of time, relative to the emissions of 1 ton of carbon dioxide (CO2)
🕸️The GWP of SF6 is 23,500 making it the most potent greenhouse gas that the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has evaluated.
