Grammy winner Kej to release rendition of national anthem with British orchestra for Independence Day

Three-time Grammy winner Ricky Kej is all set to release his instrumental rendition of the Indian national anthem in collaboration with the 100-member British Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. The veteran singer will be releasing the album on the eve of India’s Independence Day, August 15.

In an exclusive interview with DD News, the singer said, "It is the largest orchestra to ever record the Indian national anthem. It is a special event as the Britishers ruled over India for over 200 years, and now an Indian composer will be conducting the British orchestra to play the national anthem."

Interestingly, this is not Kej’s first rendition for this occasion. In 2022, he performed the anthem with 12 refugee singers who are staying in India. The singers hail from countries such as Myanmar, Afghanistan, and Cameron.

The singer also expressed his views on the recently launched national campaign ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh', which is the culminating event of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The singer said, "I truly believe in such reminders that the government gives. We all should think and work for our country." Additionally, he added, "India accounts for 1/6th of the world population, so if India grows, the whole world grows."

India’s 77th Independence Day

India will be celebrating its 77th Independence Day, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi leading from the iconic Red Fort in Delhi on August 15, 2023. Around 1,800 people from different walks of life from all over the country are invited as Special Guests to witness the ceremony.

This year’s Independence Day will culminate the ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations, which were launched by the Prime Minister from Sabarmati Ashram in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, on March 12, 2021.
Meri Mati Mera Desh Campaign: Honoring the sacrifice of heroes across the nation"

On August 9, 2023, the nationwide "Meri Mati Mera Desh" Campaign was launched as a tribute to the valiant individuals who sacrificed their lives for the nation. From August 9 to August 30, 2023, the campaign will encompass events at the village and block levels, organized by local urban bodies, state, and national entities. The initiative aims to honor the nation's heroes through various programs held across the country.

As part of this campaign, memorial plaques known as "Shilaphalakam" will be installed in village panchayats to commemorate the sacrifices of these individuals. The campaign marks the culmination of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav', which began on March 12, 2021, witnessing extensive public participation with over two lakh events conducted throughout the nation.

The campaign was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a broadcast of his 'Mann Ki Baat' program. Its primary objective is to pay tribute to the courageous freedom fighters and heroes who selflessly gave their lives for the nation's cause.

To establish an 'Amrit Vatika' in Delhi, an 'Amrit Kalash Yatra' will be conducted, involving the collection of soil from every corner of the country in 7500 urns. This 'Amrit Vatika' will serve as a symbol of the commitment towards achieving the goal of 'Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat'.

In order to encourage widespread participation, a dedicated website, https://merimaatimeradesh.gov.in, has been launched. People can upload selfies holding soil or an earthen lamp on this platform. By doing so, they pledge to uphold the ideals of Panch Pran, which include fostering national development, eradicating the mindset of subservience, embracing our rich heritage, promoting unity and solidarity, fulfilling civic duties, and showing respect to the defenders of the nation. Participants will receive a digital certificate of participation upon taking the pledge, available for download from the website.
