The issue w/ private EMS running 9-1-1's is the funding question. How do they pay for their fleet, personnel, medical equipment, paper compliance (licensing, insurance etc) and make a profit? Who pays for them? Well usually the reason a municipality contracts with a private service is to provide or amplify response capability without generating a big tax burden. So tax subsidies are pretty much right out of the window, because at that point they might as well hire more government EMS personnel. So to compensate, the local govt grants the contract holder the exclusive right to respond to calls and bill for medical and transport services in their service area (usually this is regulated by calculting a set billing range based off of the level of service, procedures or interventions utilized, mileage of transport, average local income, population size and demographics). Also Obamacare kneecapped the amount ambulance services can bill for and collect. So unfortunately this encourages low-balling to secure 9-1-1 contracts, which creates trash working environments for the EMTs and Paramedics running the calls. 9-1-1 is basically a straight up loss unless you run a nonprofit ambulance association or you do it alongside hospital-to-hospital transfers. 9-1-1 work is being abandoned by many private services for IFT/CCT contracts which are more profitable. The trade off is that EMTs and Paramedics searching for experience before going to the Fire Dept are less experienced and prepared. So many in my local area will do three days a week IFT just for money and then a couple days a week doing volly/paid-per-call 9-1-1 work for experience and to feel alive lol.

PARENTS SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR HOMESCHOOLING THEIR KIDS.

Yes, really.

A couple in Brazil has been sentenced to 50 days in prison after homeschooling their two daughters.

Audato and Ieda Denardi were convicted of “intellectual neglect” after a judge ruled their home education did not include enough state-approved content on “gender and sex education” and “tolerance and diversity.”

But it gets even crazier.

The judge also reportedly cited the girls’ music taste.

Because the daughters did not like “trap” or “sertanejo” music, the court concluded their parents failed to properly educate them in cultural diversity.

Meanwhile, both girls are accomplished pianists and speak multiple languages.

The conviction came even though the prosecutor recommended acquittal after reviewing the girls’ social and academic development.

An independent educational psychologist also found no sign of neglect.

Their mother, Ieda, said:

“As a mother, I cannot conceive a more dictatorial state than the one that wants me in jail because I chose to exercise my right to direct the education and upbringing of my daughters.”

ADF International is supporting the family’s appeal, and the prison sentence is suspended while the case moves forward.

This should alarm every parent.

Because this is not really about whether children are being educated.

It is about who gets to decide what children are taught.

The parents?
