Obesity, cancer and theranostics efficacy: challenges and opportunities

The rates of cancer seem to be inversely proportional to animal body size (Peto’s paradox; elephants <<<<< mice) mostly due to metabolic issues e.g. elephants have 20 copies of the TP53 gene while human very few.

The causal effect of body size and composition and risk of site-specific cancers in human studies is mixed.

Association between BMI and cancer survival in human studies: not consistent across cancer types and stages.

High BMI seems to be independently associated with improved survival in immunotherapy of patients with NSCLC.

It seems that there is decreased efficacy of cancer treatment among obese patients for some types of treatments, especially chemotherapy.
Little evidence indicating that weight loss for cancer patients would confer improved survival but did not take into account potential improvements in treatment efficacy.

It seems that increased physical activity may improve disease-free survival, with a potentially stronger impact among obese ones.

What about such issues in THERANOSTICS?

Think holistically, act moleculary
