Ph.D. Research Assistant Position at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, Howard University

One Ph.D. Research Assistant position is available in my group at Howard University, starting from Spring 2025. The position is focused on the research and development of numerical algorithms for multiscale and multiphysics modeling and simulation.

Location: Washington, DC, USA

Required Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field.
2. Strong background in mathematics, numerical analysis, and electromagnetics.
3. Proficiency in C/C++ programming language.
4. Adherence to the admission requirements for the Electrical and Computer Engineering Ph.D. program.

Preferred Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field.
2. Experience in computational electromagnetics methods.
3. Knowledge and experience in large-scale simulation, parallel and high-performance computing.

Candidates must hold a Master's degree in a related field. Knowledge/experience with machine learning is a plus.

Shortlisted candidates will be requested to provide at least two reference contacts' information.

One fully funded PhD position is available in the fields of distributed machine learning, secure and sustainable edge computing, energy-efficient computing, and next-generation wireless networks. The successful candidate will be expected to join the PhD program in Computational Science at Middle Tennessee State University starting in Spring 2025.

Key Criteria for Selection:

1. A BS or MS degree in Computer Science (CS), Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE), Statistics, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.

2. Preference will be given to candidates with an MS degree.

3. A strong foundation in mathematics and programming is essential.

4. Proficiency in key areas such as:
- Data Structures
- Algorithms
- Optimization Theory (Preferable)

5. Previous research experience and familiarity with deep learning frameworks (such as TensorFlow or PyTorch) are advantageous but not mandatory.
