2 PhD Positions Available at ÉTS, Montréal, Canada in the Terahertz (THz) Group (TeraÉTS) / 2 postes de doctorat disponibles à l'ÉTS, Montréal, Canada dans le groupe Terahertz (THz) (TeraÉTS)
Funding: The positions are fully funded through support from NSERC and the Canadian Research Chair program on the Spatiotemporal Encryption of THz light. Exceptional candidates may be eligible for a competitive annual stipend of up to $30,000.
Position Summary: The successful candidates will conduct research projects focused on ultrasensitive detection of THz photons towards single photon detection. Under the guidance of the principal investigator, candidates will contribute conceptually, technically, and experimentally to the research program. Responsibilities include hands-on experimentation with advanced optical setups and instrumentation, literature review, manuscript writing, contribution to funding applications, and participation in scientific presentations and meetings.
Requirements: Applicants should have a strong background in optics/physics and possess excellent experimental and analytical skills. Prior experience with ultrafast laser or free space optics is desirable.
Research Objectives: The research aims to achieve quantum optics capability in the THz frequency range, focusing on parametric detection and amplification using a regenerative laser and an oscillator laser. Specific objectives include the development of ultrasensitive imaging techniques and information encoding methods. This involves converting THz photons into the near-infrared spectrum and shaping the light for single-shot measurement.
Collaborative Environment: Candidates will work closely with the principal investigator and postdoctoral fellows, benefiting from a collaborative and supportive research environment.
Application Procedure: Interested candidates are invited to submit a motivation letter and CV to Professor François Blanchard by June 5, 2024, via email at francois.blanchard@etsmtl.ca.

We are inviting applications for multiple PhD positions from highly motivated candidates at the School of Computer Science and Engineering. Our objective is to enhance the reasoning capabilities of Large Language Models (LLMs), thereby establishing robust mechanisms for their assurance and improvement. We will explore how to leverage knowledge graphs for the detection of hallucinations and falsehoods, and to expand the LLMs reasoning capabilities through the integration of knowledge graphs with LLMs.
Preferred Expertise:
Optimally, you should have expertise in one or more of the following research areas:
- Knowledge Graphs
- Machine Learning and Deep Learning
- Ontology Design and Ontological Engineering
- Natural Language Processing
Requirements:
We are looking for Candidates with:
- A very good honour/master's degree in computer science or a comparable discipline – however, people who do not have this qualification but can impress with their research work are explicitly encouraged to apply.
- Motivation and excitement in dealing with challenging research problems and in developing convincing solutions together.
- Publications of research results in renowned journals and conferences.
The supervisory team will be Imran Razzak, Flora Salim, Wenjie Zhang. The studentship covers tuition fees and a tax-free stipend ($38,000+ Approximately) for 3.5 years.
