Forwarded from Hudson War Mapping - Reporting on the Ukraine War (Hudson War Mapping)
About 2 hours ago, Russia launched 6 Iskander-M/S-300/S-400 SRBMs at Kyiv city.
These ballistics had no warning and were not detected until they were launched. Presumably, a failure of US intelligence is to blame.

Could be repeated launches stay alert
The alerts were never sounded until they were already in the air and near the strike zone. Very good suprise attack by the Russians it seems

No identification for these missile types were issued either so its either Iskander Ms, Kn-23s or even added modified S-400 Ballistic missiles

Some sources claim 'bad weather' initiated the failures to respond to the missile threat

Footage sounding of the Ballistic impacts in Kyiv
Reportedly a 9 story building in the Desnyansky district of the outer Kyiv region was hit and emergency services are already responding to the scene to a current fire. Civilian casualties have not been specified since it is too early to say so

Almost likely to be a mix of Iskander Ms and S-400 ballistic missiles

The sources are currently conflicting. Some are saying a 9 story building others are saying a warehouse in the district was hit

Missile struck radio factory and warehouse in Kiev
Probably a warehouse being struck in this case then. Momo is a trusted source.

One thing that is not making a whole lot sense to me regarding the current frontline changes in Ukraine is the fact that, for the past few months, we have been hearing following stuff from various OSINTers or media houses:
- Drones saturate the skies in certain places, actively hunting for any moving soul or vehicle.
- Small teams of 3-4 men are send to a location, they consolidate if they survive, wait for more teams to arrive then launch an assault
- Russians had been recruiting far more men per month than Ukraine's forced mobilization and relatively suffered fewer casualties.
Ukrainians making advances along one sector of the front can still be explained, but what we are witnessing is that almost along the entire contact line, they are leading counter attacks (Lyman, Sumy, Donbass, Zaporizhya, Dnipro-Donbass border) and Russians are on the retreat despite certain reports suggesting they had achieved drone numbers on par with Ukrainians.
Perhaps the Russian command is willingly retreating from certain sections. But I thought usage of drones would have greatly stopped Ukrainians.
Retreating from areas for which you fought for like over a year or more only to get pushed back in under 6 months by the enemy (Lyman especially) has a negative effect on the morale of the soldiers deployed in that position.
Also there is a lot of fog of war, like very little drone footage from these areas exist. Russians would be willing to post footage of them inflicting damage on advancing Ukrainians, but we don't see the case here that much. Another report was suggesting that Russia has been launching way more glide bombs onto Ukrainian positions.
Overall 2026 is an opposite of the previous year.
By comparison, in 2023, Russian advances were relatively small but Ukrainian 'summer offensive' was a spectacular failure and they had taken probably less land these current counter attacks.
In 2024 the Ukrainians only got some net gain in Kursk but were suffering setbacks in most of the areas.
In 2025, the Ukrainians were hardly doing major counterattacks
But come to 2026, they are doing it across the frontline.
