Mission accomplished in the Dolomiti

We made the news… some influential dude has one of his extra holiday flats across the street and wasn't happy about the city's decision to let regulars in the region have a good time. Noise complaints usually don't make front page news. The dude must be very influential. Also, he is too important to come down and talk to us in person. Nobody complained while we were doing our job, playing club classics to an audience that has never heard them before. On the opposite, every 20 minutes somebody came to us saying they had never heard such good music in the mountains before.

Ancient Rituals from Kinky Rome are back at @DiscoBizarre. In the void of smoke and strobe-filled dancefloors, NURSE3D crafts a sonic mass that plunges dancers into a beautifully dark abyss. Drawing from #Gothic, #EBM, #Darkwave, #PostPunk and #Industrial, making Karma perform to its black nightmare ritual. This night shalt not be mare all the time though: Housekeeping hosts are DJ Ritual, DjAri, Duba and the Bizarre Billy, providing oddities ranging from #70sBoogie to #Electroclash.

Peru is providing us with musical inspiration again. This time it is music curator, DJ and youtuber @YamiSpechie who joins us in the caves of @KitKatBerlin for a night of '80s #postpunk, #goth and #HiNRG - decorated with the performance of his Brazilian buddy @DanielKnutz, early evening support by @BizarreBilly and late night support by @PsychoJones. Basically, it's a night you can't go wrong. Expect '80s vibes and a hint of #electro.

Back in 1978, Lene Lovich had already contributed to 3 albums and was just about to release her solo album with her big new wave hit "Lucky Number" when Marc Cerrone invited her to visit Paris and put words on top of an unnamed disco song. She came up with the dramatic lyrics of "Supernature" and sang them. As her career took off within the new wave, bearing that witch look that inspired Kate Bush and Nina Hagen to follow up, she probably forgot about that disco tune she had recorded for Cerrone.

As I met her yesterday she told me she had sung those lyrics on top of a full old-school disco arrangement, with strings and everything. She didn't seem aware that the tune is legendary for being one of the first fully electronic club anthems. If that's true, where did the disco version go? I also asked her whether she had a hand in writing the brilliant chord progression of that song, but she denied. So this is her interpretation of it.

Starting around 1998, as the rest of the planet was busy digesting #drumnbass and #frenchtouch, Berlin was rediscovering the sound of the '80s and calling it #electro. The city was bubbling with artists daring to perform with their bodies, voices, synthesizers and electric guitars in clubs that were only used to techno artists turning knobs.

Few names such as PEACHES and JEANS TEAM remained in collective memory while the majority left a legacy of forgotten obscure records. One such artist went by the name of TETSUO. A young Norwegian who sought to break through in Berlin, playing all over town and releasing vinyls on various labels before going back to Oslo and becoming a writer.

Saturday May 30 at FREEDONIA in BARCELONA, @DiscoBizarre has invited him back to play old and new songs under his new name that in Scandi ears sounds pretty cool: NACHTLEBEN. @BizarreBilly is also around so they can perform their new track "Do U Want It?" together. Local enforcement comes from the charming Urugayan-Valencian ALANA.

It's been 9 years already that we run the disco floor at @KitKatBerlin each Saturday night! This week we are reaching out to the other side of the planet and have HANAKITO from Tokyo come over. Well, we are actually cheating. Yes, she started in her hometown at AOYAMA TUNNEL, but she developed here style in Mexico City and is now a resident of Barcelona. Also, from Eurovision city Malmö we have MB-DISCO label founder Martin Brodin. He's been influential in today's meaning of disco for over fifteen years. It's @BizarreBilly's honour to host these bigshots of the disco scene and celebrate 9 years of @DiscoBizarre together. The first disco party at KitKat took place even 15 years earlier, but that's a story for a separate upcoming post.
