PhD Dissertation Public Defense Held at BiT–BDU

Mr. Mehari Kumilachew Bezuneh, successfully defended his PhD dissertation at the Bahir Dar Institute of Technology (BiT),
Mr. Mehari’s dissertation, titled “Development of a Systematic Framework for Selecting Mass Customization Strategies in Manufacturing Industry” focuses on advancing manufacturing systems through strategic alignment of production processes with customer demands. The research aims to enhance the implementation and performance of mass customization by systematically linking customer order decoupling points (CODPs) with enabling technologies and methodologies.
The study introduces a structured framework to evaluate how manufacturing technologies and operational strategies can improve flexibility and efficiency in modern production systems. It also applies advanced methods, including the Fuzzy Delphi Method, to validate and prioritize key factors influencing successful mass customization.
The dissertation is supervised by Dr. Assefa Amare (Associate Professor, BiT) as the main advisor, with co-advisors Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Franke from the Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems at Friedrich-Alexander University, Germany, and Dr. Teshome Mulatie (Associate Professor, BiT).
This PhD program is a collaborative initiative between Bahir Dar Institute of Technology and the Institute for Factory Automation and Production Systems at Friedrich-Alexander University, reflecting a strong international partnership in advancing engineering education and research.
During the defense session, examiners and members of the academic community raised critical questions and provided constructive feedback.
