Seminar on “Agentic Coding” Engages Technology Community held at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University on February 16, 2026
******************************************************************************
A seminar on “Agentic Coding: AI in Software Engineering” was held at Jan Moscov Library of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, attracting academic staff and students, particularly computer engineers, computer scientists, software developers, and technology entrepreneurs.
Led by Dr. Mikael Alemu Gorsky, a researcher and lecturer at the Holon Institute of Technology, the seminar explored the practical integration of artificial intelligence into software development processes, with a focus on “agentic coding”, the emerging paradigm in which AI systems act as collaborative agents in programming, debugging, testing, and systems design.
Dr. Mikael highlighted how AI-powered development tools are redefining the software engineering lifecycle, from automated code generation and refactoring to intelligent testing and deployment optimization. Discussions centered on how engineers must transition from traditional coding roles to higher-level system design, prompt engineering, AI supervision, and architectural thinking.
The seminar was marked by participation and lively exchanges. Students and professionals raised questions regarding the risk of overdependence on automation, data security implications, ethical considerations, and how Ethiopian tech ecosystems can strategically harness AI innovations.
The seminar concluded with encouragement for participants to actively experiment with AI development tools while cultivating critical thinking and ethical awareness. The event reinforced the Institute’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancement and preparing graduates for the rapidly evolving digital economy.

Bahir Dar University Hosts Design Your Venture Training to Strengthen Startup Ecosystem
February 14, 2026 / Bahir Dar, ISC/BiT]
==========================
Bahir Dar University, through its Entrepreneurship Development & Incubation Center in collaboration with the Business Incubation and Techno-Entrepreneurship Center, successfully conducted a three-day Design Your Venture (DYV) training program from February 12 to 14, 2026. The initiative aimed to empower selected startups across all university campuses with practical entrepreneurial skills and strategic insights.
The program brought together emerging entrepreneurs to strengthen their capacity in venture creation, innovation, and business model development.
Mr. Hailemariam Mulugeta, Director of the Business Incubation and Techno-Entrepreneurship Center, officially welcomed participants, highlighting the transformative potential of the DYV training in advancing startup development within the university ecosystem. He emphasized that the program equips entrepreneurs with essential tools to navigate the complexities of launching and scaling businesses.
The training was formally opened by Dr. Sisay Geremew, Startup Director at the university, who encouraged participants to actively engage in the sessions. He underscored the importance of leveraging the opportunity to build sustainable ventures capable of addressing real-world challenges.
Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in interactive and hands-on discussions focused primarily on addressing key agricultural challenges. Entrepreneurs developed venture concepts aligned with their areas of expertise, identified target customers through detailed persona development, and crafted compelling value propositions.
The training placed significant emphasis on completing a Business Model Canvas, delivering effective investment pitches, and applying a structured problem-solving framework based on empathy, problem definition, ideation, and prototyping.
In his closing remarks, Dr. Muluken Zegeye, Deputy Scientific Director for Research and Technology Transfer, stressed the importance of collaboration among campus incubation centers. He noted that coordinated efforts are essential to building a comprehensive ecosystem for business development, innovation, and technology incubation at the university.
The DYV training marks a significant step forward in fostering innovation and entrepreneurship at Bahir Dar University, providing startups with a platform to refine ideas, engage with experts, and strengthen peer collaboration.
