Seminar on “Agentic Coding” Engages Technology Community held at Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University on February 16, 2026
******************************************************************************
A seminar on “Agentic Coding: AI in Software Engineering” was held at Jan Moscov Library of Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, attracting academic staff and students, particularly computer engineers, computer scientists, software developers, and technology entrepreneurs.
Led by Dr. Mikael Alemu Gorsky, a researcher and lecturer at the Holon Institute of Technology, the seminar explored the practical integration of artificial intelligence into software development processes, with a focus on “agentic coding”, the emerging paradigm in which AI systems act as collaborative agents in programming, debugging, testing, and systems design.
Dr. Mikael highlighted how AI-powered development tools are redefining the software engineering lifecycle, from automated code generation and refactoring to intelligent testing and deployment optimization. Discussions centered on how engineers must transition from traditional coding roles to higher-level system design, prompt engineering, AI supervision, and architectural thinking.
The seminar was marked by participation and lively exchanges. Students and professionals raised questions regarding the risk of overdependence on automation, data security implications, ethical considerations, and how Ethiopian tech ecosystems can strategically harness AI innovations.
The seminar concluded with encouragement for participants to actively experiment with AI development tools while cultivating critical thinking and ethical awareness. The event reinforced the Institute’s commitment to staying at the forefront of technological advancement and preparing graduates for the rapidly evolving digital economy.
