PhD Dissertation Public Defense Held at BiT-BDU
[December 20, 2025 Bahir Dar, ISC/BiT]
********
Mr. Girmaye Ambissa Begaw successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Sustainable
Energy Engineering at the Bahir Dar Energy Center, Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir
Dar University (BiT-BDU). His dissertation, titled “Development of Co 3 O 4 -Based Nanomaterials for Efficient Electrocatalysis in Metal-Air Batteries”, was conducted under the supervision of Prof. Delele Worku and Dr. Ababay Ketema (Associate Professor), both from Bahir Dar University.
Mr. Girmaye Ambissa’s research focuses on developing cost-effective and efficient
electrocatalyst materials for clean energy storage technologies, particularly rechargeable
metal–air batteries. By engineering cobalt-based nanomaterials and evaluating their
electrochemical performance, his work aims to enhance energy efficiency and durability
while reducing reliance on expensive precious metals. This research supports the
advancement of sustainable energy storage solutions and contributes to a reliable and resilient
clean energy future.
The external examiners for the defense were Dr. Girum Ayalneh (Associate Professor) from
Addis Ababa University and Dr. Andebet Gedamu (Associate Professor) from Kotebe
University of Education. During the defense, the examiners and members of the academic
community posed insightful questions and offered constructive feedback, all of which Mr.
Girmaye addressed with clear, comprehensive, and well-reasoned responses, demonstrating
his strong command of both theoretical and experimental aspects of his research.
Bahir Dar Institute of Technology-Bahir Dar University wishes to congratulate Mr. Girmaye
Ambissa on his outstanding academic achievement.
