PhD Dissertation Public Defense Held at BiT-BDU
[December 17, 2025 Bahir Dar, ISC/BiT]
********
Mr. Getnet Melese Meheretu successfully defended his PhD dissertation in Sustainable Energy Engineering at the Bahir Dar Energy Center, Bahir Dar Institute of Technology, Bahir Dar University (BiT-BDU). His dissertation, titled “Halide Perovskite Photovoltaic Cells: Stability, Performance, and Techno-Economic Analysis”, was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Getasew Admasu Wubetu(Associate Professor) and Dr. Moges Tsega Yihunie(Associate Professor), both from Bahir Dar University.
Mr. Getnet’s research focuses on the performance, stability, and degradation mechanisms of
halide perovskite solar cells under real-world operating conditions. His work integrates
device characterization, stability studies, simulation, techno-economic analysis, and design
specifications for solar irrigation systems, providing valuable insights for the deployment of
perovskite photovoltaic technologies in sustainable energy systems in Ethiopia. This research
is both timely and essential for shaping a more sustainable and resilient energy future.
The external examiners for the defense were Prof. Abebe Belay from Adama Science and
Technology University and Dr. Newayemedhin Abera (Associate Professor) from Addis
Ababa University. During the defense, the examiners and members of the academic
community posed insightful questions and offered constructive feedback, all of which Mr.
Getnet addressed with clear, comprehensive, and well-reasoned responses, demonstrating his
strong command of both theoretical and experimental aspects of his research.
Bahir Dar Institute of Technology-Bahir Dar University wishes to congratulate Mr. Getenet
Melese on his outstanding academic achievement.
