So anyone claiming enlightenment, demonstrate some fairly tangible powers please.

Sean Esbjorn Hargens' current course on Siddhis and Superpowers has clearly demonstrated that in Hinduism and Buddhism at least, claims about feeling a "simple presence of being" could easily be about some very, very low level insight. Not even 1st jnana meditative absorption.

If someone claims to know a bunch of subtle stuff, give me some obvious examples. How much money is in my wallet? What photos? Honestly, pick any siddhi that requires someone else's verification and back up big claims a bit. Of course this will only confirm that one ability among many relative siddhis, which is very different from accomplishing the ultimate siddhi of complete enlightenment according to Buddhist definitions.

If "it's all emptiness," chill but not for me.

In Vajrayana, unsurpassed buddhas are said to be unaffected by elements. Tsoknyi Rinpoche says he will sponsor the tea light to see if someone's finger burns over it.

So many people have already been hurt by big claims of "simple presence of being" and other minor siddhi feats, both in recent and current USA, as well as throughout the centuries.

For me personally, big claims about "abiding in rigpa continuously" have a lot of siddhis that are said to go along with that. It's not that hard to test.

Bodhichitta activity is the main test. Is a person who claims to be enlightened constantly trying to cement how special they are in the minds of others or not?

In Buddhism, compassion is the main expressive quality of wisdom. Is such a person humble, compassionate, flexible, and deeply caring of all others, not just their friends or when they're in public. Do they always seem to be in bodhichitta? Are they always in rigpa, even when they talk, walk, sit, lie down, dream, drive a car, pay taxes, get a bad social media comment . . . Do they flinch regarding the eight worldly concerns even slightly (gain/loss, praise/blame, fame/disrepute, and pleasure/pain)? If they do, it ain't rigpa. Alternatively, if they avoid worldly stuff as well, it probably ain't rigpa. Rigpa doesn't prefer nirvana to samsara either.

In Tibetan Buddhism especially, testing Teachers is a very, very big deal before you follow their advice because the relationship between Vajrayana Teacher and student is critically important and lasts forever. Casually assuming this or that is very, very discouraged in Vajrayana.

Again, I'm not saying I know anything or claim any ability. I don't. Claiming big abilities one doesn't have is one of the worst karmic things you can do according to Buddhism. And self-deception doesn't make it much less worse because it still can hurt a lot of other beings and burn the seed of Dharma for them now and long into the future.

False siddhi claims can cause people to distrust reliable paths of ending suffering, which is a tremendously horrible thing to do.

Hopefully this clarifies my biases a bit without ruffling too many feathers. I'm not trying to go against anyone. A lot of siddhi activity is also about preventative medicine: preventing upcoming sufferings by trying to not reproduce their causes.

All love,
dragpa

MESSAGE FROM WAYNE

Hello my loves,

The first awakening often arrives and illuminates like lightning.

Suddenly everything is one. Not as an idea, not as philosophy, but as living reality. The world shines. Boundaries dissolve. Everything glows with an intimacy that feels almost unbearable in its beauty. It is magnificent.

And like all experiences, it fades.

The unity is no longer substantive. It is remembered. Known. Understood. But not burning as before. And in that quiet fading, something uncomfortable appears: the sense that “I had it… and now it’s gone.”

This is the subtle misery of the non-dual seeker.

The idea sneaks in that enlightenment must mean stabilizing that extraordinary experience — holding on to unity as a permanent state. Endless radiance. Unbroken bliss. A spiritual high that never drops.

It does not work that way.

The Final Understanding — call it Enlightenment, Realization, the State of the Sage — is not a state at all. It has no texture. No glow. No fireworks. It is nothing. Not a dreamy mystical nothing. Nothing.

It is the Nothing from which every experience arises and into which every experience dissolves.

Nothing cannot be attained. It cannot be acquired. It cannot be preserved. It cannot be taught. It cannot be practiced into existence.

Nothing offers no handle for the eager to grasp.

How disappointing.

Yet here we are — apparently pursuing It. Talking about It. Listening for It. Trying to understand It.

From one angle, it is absurd. From another, it is deeply human.

So here we are. In this strange and beautiful exploration. Looking for what cannot be found. Seeking what has never been absent.

May It find you now.

With the deepest Love,

Wayne

«Кто познает Дао, кажется тёмным.
Кто восходит к Дао, кажется отступающим.
Кто достиг вершины Дао, кажется заблуждающимся.
Высшее совершенство кажется простотой.
Высшая чистота кажется покрытой пятнами.
Высшая безупречность кажется ущербностью.
Высшая добродетель кажется её отступлением.
Высшая искренность кажется притворством.

Великий образ не имеет формы.
Так и Дао — незримо, безымянно, но только оно способно привести к совершенству».

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan And Party — The Ecstatic Qawwali (1987)
каввали

1 Nami-Danam
2 Allah Muhammad Char Yar
3 Data Sahab De Daware
4 Yadan Vichri Sajan Diyan
