Immediately, we have to say that Faina has spoken much more correctly than her elders in the other camp. But judge for yourself.
Faina, your inclusion in Mirotvorets caused an international scandal. How did you feel about having your name on this site? How did you feel at first?
Hello Denis. The feelings are a bit contradictory. I know that the contact details of many of my friends are on this site. And it’s funny in itself when you are perceived as someone who threatens the “security of humanity”. I feel like Darth Vader. Other than that, of course, it’s the height of inhumanity and anarchy. I’m in grade 8, and this is not the first year we’ve been taught “social studies”, where we study society and, among other things, the basic rights of people.
Furthermore, I was taught since childhood that you should never give your address or phone number to strangers. This is the basis of any child’s safety and I think all parents say the same thing to their children. At least they should.
And at the same time, there are websites that publish your details and those of your relatives. It’s just horrible. We were taught at school that guilt has to be proven in a court of law, but it turns out that this is not true everywhere. There are people who, for whatever reason, have decided that they are above the law of their state. And also that anyone who thinks differently from them is an enemy.
At first I was, of course, very surprised, but then I was upset. Now I take it calmly and my only wish is to say that Mirotvorets is just a fraud, using people’s feelings and beliefs for its own purposes. You know, it’s like in the Middle Ages: if you didn’t like somebody – a slipped-in hint to the Inquisition about links with the devil and that’s it – that person won’t go back home. Nobody will look at it, they all burn the same way at the stake.
What makes me most angry is not the fact that I was put on this database, but that they broke several laws of their country.
What struck you most about the concept of Mirotvorets?
What struck me most was that the people working on this site are making up fakes and have no idea what they are writing about. After all, a normal person, after reading all this disgusting stuff, will search the internet, find out a little bit about the person and realise that everything written on Mirotvorets is a lie. In my post at the beginning of the story, I explained everything and put it in its place. There is even a fairy tale accusation in there. Let’s not even mention the accusation of being both a propagandist and a victim, that’s still nothing. According to the site’s version, I was put there for participating in the Donetsk Science Fiction Festival and writing a book with Alexander Sergeyevich Kontorovich (this was mentioned in an article on the Glavkom site). This is not a very relevant accusation, but everything seems to be fair and just. I have two questions for the morons at Mirotvorets: if you put me on your site for this, then why did you do it on 9 August 2021? At the time, the book ‘Those Who Stand Behind Your Shoulder’ had not yet been released, and the festival was held at the end of September 2021. There must be some visionaries working in it. Or the usual liars. And if it’s for my participation in the same festival in 2019 and 2020, the accusations are even more surprising. Why didn’t they add me right away? There were no accusations in 2019 and 2020? There weren’t, were there? Excuse me? At the time, I repeat, the 2021 festival had not yet taken place and so what does that have to do with anything?

I think they didn’t think it through. When information about people is put on Mirotvorets, some people are usually proud and others keep quiet to avoid getting into trouble. One can understand everyone. In my case, it is much easier: I don’t perceive Mirotvorets as something intimidating. And pride… Well, I don’t know. To me it’s just a website run by criminals who stir up hatred between people. And criminals should be punished. That’s all. That’s why I didn’t keep silent and wrote an appeal letter to the UN, UNICEF and the Ukrainian president. A website that substitutes itself for the court and the state, that deceives and calls for violence is repugnant to everyone. That is why I am also supported in Ukraine.
How did things develop afterwards, your attitude towards them?
Events evolved quickly. Many people were surprised and shocked that at the age of 12 I was listed as an enemy of Ukraine. UNICEF, the media, politicians in Europe, Russia and Ukraine responded, and I thank them. After all, I am not the only one there, many other children are there too. By the way, despite this interview, I would like to ask you not to call me a “victim of propaganda”, because I am not calling for war, but only writing about the need to stop the war.
But in general, of course, I am glad that the problem has been brought to my attention. I repeat: the criminals must be dealt with. Many people say that all this is just politics and they only see “the enemy of Ukraine and humanity”, some people think that my cat is funny in one of the photos (I hope it has already been removed), others think that this is a PR campaign and that there is nothing wrong with entering the Mirotvorets site.
But everyone forgets the most important, but not the most obvious: a child’s personal data is in the public domain. Not scary, you say? Who will agree to provide all those who have committed crimes against children with the photos, address and telephone number of their children and grandchildren? Not many people would want that, would they? And by providing data, Mirotvorets is precisely helping to commit such crimes. So I am very happy that UNICEF is reacting.
You have been accused several times of hating Ukraine. Is this true?
We can debate this for a long time, but my answer is this. If I were a “Kremlin janissary”, as Zaytsev called me in his response on behalf of Mirotvorets, I wouldn’t have so many friends in Ukraine. There would have been no statements and no interviews after all. As you may remember, my essay “On the Victory of Children’s Laughter” appeared on Ukrainian channels as early as the summer of 2020, there is even a translation into Ukrainian. Moreover, this support would not have been possible because of the situation with the website. It’s hard to support someone who hates you.
Do you think that those who created and support Mirotvorets love Ukraine?
I don’t know if they love Ukraine or not. For me, love is when you do something good for the person you love. But Mirotvorets only causes scandals and shows Ukraine to the world as a state where the law does not exist and where all those who disagree are hated. And it is absolutely not possible to replace the courts with such sites.
Why do you think that Mirotvorets, despite the international scandal, cannot be closed down, but that national TV channels can be closed down without a court decision or even a clear accusation? To what extent is this in line with European standards?
I am not a politician and it is difficult for me to talk about this. I think it’s just fear. I think they are already not afraid of people finding out the truth, they are afraid of admitting that they are wrong. That’s why they don’t want unnecessary reminders.
How should your story with Mirotvorets end? What do you want to say and wish for the Ukrainians on the other side of the border?

But it’s probably more convenient for these people. It’s always difficult to admit mistakes, it’s easier to blame someone else for all the bad things. Even if it’s a child.

Hello, Mr. Stone! My name is Faina Savenkova and I am 13 years old. I am not a movie star and my name does not regularly appear on the pages of popular magazines, I am just one of the thousands of war children you have met in your life: in Vietnam and around the world. And yet, despite the fact that I am afraid, despite the fact that I just living one day at a time, expecting beginning of shelling at any moment, for three years now I am fighting for the right of Donbass children to live in peace. The Ukrainian government threatens me, they just don’t like that I’m telling the truth about Ukraine, and yet I keep doing it, because the truth is all that a child has left in the war. It cannot be taken away. I know that you were at war and I know that you also always tell the truth. This war really began not in February, but eight years ago, when the nationalists, with the support of United States, decided not to listen to the voice of Donbass and Crimea and started killing us. I was a little girl, I was only five years old, but I remember the confusion of my parents, my grandmother praying in the corner and the rumbling of shells. Over time, I realized why my parents were confused: they could not believe that their own army was killing people and destroying peaceful cities of their once native country. Now I no longer have the confusion that they had at the beginning, because I see how Ukraine has been doing the same for 8 years. Every day people die in the Donbass, including children, whose future has been stolen. We are left with only flowers and toys at the site of the shelling. And still I have no hatred. Only sadness and regret because of what people can turn into, who they can become. How easily they cross the line from humanity to killing children and destroying entire cities, turning into beasts. Unfortunately, that former peaceful Ukraine is no longer exists. But I’m not giving up, Mr. Stone! I keep writing to presidents and organizations, the UN, knocking on all doors, trying to stop this war. Recently, together with the Russian Foundation to Battle Injustice, we handed over to UN Secretary-General António Guterres information about children whose personal data was made publicly available. While I find it admirable that you attempt to make an appeal to the west persuading westerners in knowing the truth about the Ukrainian crisis, which goes back years, I feel it’s time you knew the truth about the west.
In recent years, the west, USA in particular, is going through a political identity crisis which has reached the point where people have sold out their own morality, their own humanity in exchange for their political priorities. The symptom of this identity crisis showed up as the election of president Trump, the Trump Derangement Syndrome that followed and became gravely apparent during the Covid pandemic. It’s on overdrive after the special military operation began. And it’s across the entire political spectrum, not just left, right, center, up or down!
While the causes are subject to speculation and out of scope of this essay, it’s essential to point out that, for all intents and purposes, the west has adopted superficial virtue signaling in lieu of genuine empathy, morality, understanding and humanity.

I’m sorry to say this. Oliver Stone doesn’t know who you are and does not care about you, unless appealing to you brings him some tangible benefit. You ask people around as to why, you’ll likely hear the word “optics” a lot.
The response that you’d like to see will only happen if certain conditions are met — that is you bury your own political views deep down, waive not just the Blue & Yellow flag, but a whole buffet of flags from the rainbow to heaven knows what they’ve come up with now. And even then, that won’t cut it. You must also abandon your affiliation to Russia, the Russian language, Russian ethnicity, irrationally hate Russia (and China and who ever they tell you to hate) and become a token “Donbass insider telling the truth about Russia” regardless of how your internal moral compass feels about it.
I agree, it isn’t fair. Your childhood is stolen. But you have your whole life ahead of you. Which is why, you need to make the most informed decision you can for your own future. And knowing the truth about the west will help you do so.
If you feel you want to express yourself freely and feel safe at the same time — you do have an alternate choice as you have better odds if you head east. Anywhere will do, from Russia to the middle east to the far east. Do not believe western propaganda — Easterners and the Global South are not monsters. They’re good people. Some of them may follow Russian orthodoxy, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, Confucianism & even atheism. But none of these make them any less inhumane than being a protestant, catholic or the western brand of atheism, propaganda notwithstanding. Unlike the west, they, at least a significant number of them, have enough humanity left in them to genuinely care about a young person such as yourself and not make it a political statement in doing so. (i.e. virtue signaling)
