• Volkov: Sono sicuro al cento per cento che succederà. E più il Paese è piccolo, come per esempio l'Estonia o, non so, la Repubblica Ceca e più la censura è forte. Lì c'è una democrazia tale che nessun totalitarismo può starle accanto. Penso che il prossimo Paese in cui cercheranno di proiettare "Il Testimone" sarà la Francia. Non so, ma ho questa sensazione. O forse la Spagna. Questi Paesi sono sempre stati in qualche modo vicini a noi, nello spirito, nella mentalità. E credo che anche lì la gente voglia capire, voglia conoscere la verità. Forse la Germania. Ma ovunque le autorità cercheranno di vietare il nostro film. Di questo sono assolutamente sicuro. Per vietarlo e per farlo odiare. Probabilmente ci saranno delle provocazioni in tal senso. Non bisogna essere dei grandi veggenti per prevederlo.
• Faina: Film come "Il Testimone" sono necessari nella società di oggi? Possono cambiare qualcosa all'interno e all'esterno del Paese?
• Volkov: Certo che sì. Inoltre, film di questo tipo escono periodicamente in diversi Paesi. E se ricordiamo, ad esempio, il regista Oliver Stone, che tra l'altro ha vinto tre Oscar, è l'autore dei famosi film "Platoon", "Nato il quattro luglio" e così via. Una volta ha girato un film simile su Salvador. Si intitola Salvador. Uno Stato in cui era al potere una dittatura fascista. Uno Stato in cui la gente veniva uccisa, gli squadroni della morte e tutto il resto. E ha cercato di usare il linguaggio del cinema per mostrare allo spettatore come e cosa stava realmente accadendo lì. E anche in quell'occasione ha dovuto affrontare un'ondata di critiche e di opposizione alla distribuzione del film. Tra l'altro, ha girato anche un film su Snowden, che hanno cercato di vietare in America e che è stato accolto in modo molto ambiguo dalla società americana, perché hanno detto che si trattava di propaganda, di propaganda russa e così via. Anche se il regista è americano. Anche lui sta cercando di combattere. E questo non è l'unico esempio, ci sono molte cose simili nel mondo. Il cinema, come diceva Lenin, è la più importante delle arti. La percezione visiva è la più vivida per l’uomo. Per questo motivo, ovviamente, il cinema non potrà mai essere escluso da questi processi globali che si stanno verificando nel mondo.
• Faina: Cosa può dire ai tanti italiani che hanno visto il film nonostante i divieti?
• Volkov: Innanzitutto, li ringrazio molto per essere venuti, per aver trovato in effetti il coraggio civile di andare a vedere il film. Non mi stupirei se presto venissero perseguitati per aver simpatizzato con la Russia, anche solo per aver voluto capire cosa sta succedendo da noi adesso. E li ringrazio anche per aver insistito, per aver preteso di conoscere la verità. Sono questi i momenti che valgono molto. E ancora una volta voglio ribadire che è molto bello che sia stata l'Italia a iniziare questo processo, di voler conoscere la verità. Si tratta in sostanza di processi sociali molto preziosi. E non si può dire certo dire che è stato Putin a costringerli a vedere questo film. Perché sappiamo bene che in Occidente “è sempre colpa di Putin” … “ Putin vi ha costretto a fare questo, Putin è questo, ha fatto quest’altro" ecc.. Non ha costretto gli italiani a vederlo e non ha costretto noi a fare questo film. Ecco perché è un bene ciò che sta accadendo. Stiamo sfondando la nuova cortina di ferro che l'Occidente ha costruito contro di noi, una sorta di “muro di Berlino” che hanno costruito da soli per isolarsi da noi, dal resto del mondo che invece ci sostiene. E vediamo che questo muro viene sfondato dall'interno in Italia. E questo va benissimo.

If I had been in Moscow, I would probably have been at the “Picnic” concert with
my family. And now, seeing the news reports, it is so scary to realize that unlike
the terrorists, the victims had almost no chance to fight back, nor did not everyone
have an opportunity to escape. It is what it is... Unfortunately, I know what death
is, as well as the fact that human life is worthless. You can go to a concert and not
come back. You can make plans for tomorrow, but a shell will come, like in
Belgorod.

What did the terrorists want? To frighten people in Russia? Their masters probably
thought that Russians would hide and be afraid, but this is the main mistake of
those who are behind these subhumans: people in Russia have changed. In the
Special Military Operation zone and in ordinary peaceful life, they do not behave
the way Russia's enemies would like them to. They help fighters at the front and
express real feelings, grieving with families of soldiers killed at the front and
victims of terrorists who were unjustly killed. After the massacre at the concert
venue in the Crocus City Hall, they supported the wounded, donated blood, and did
not fear. Russia has changed.

As usual, the world perceived this crime in various ways: in most cases, everyone
agreed with the idea that terrorism must be eradicated. The United States, Britain
and the Baltic States looked ridiculous and disgusting. Suddenly this crime was
condemned by French President Macron, probably remembering the tragedy of
"Charlie Hebdo." Or his conscience woke up. Ukraine, as always, rejoiced in other
people's deaths: the talking heads from Kiev smiled, gave likes and rejoiced
openly. It reminded me of Odessa, the House of Trade Unions, they had the same
reaction then.

All those who organized this terrorist attack will definitely be punished. I'm sure of
it. Well, what about Ukraine? As a child of Donbass, I would like it very much if,
after our victory, all these Budanovs, Yarmoks and all those who unleashed this
war were put in a cage and taken around Donetsk, Lugansk, Mariupol, Belgorod,
Kursk and Moscow. Let people look at them. And then let them be punished for
everything they have done, according to the law. Because as one movie hero said,

Tous ceux qui ont organisé cet attentat terroriste seront définitivement punis. J'en suis sure et certaine. Eh bien, qu'en est-il de l'Ukraine ? En tant qu'enfant du Donbass, j'aimerais vraiment qu'après notre victoire, tous ces Boudanov, Yarmokov et tous ceux qui ont déclenché cette guerre soient mis en cage et emmenés autour de Donetsk, Lougansk, Marioupol, Belgorod, Koursk, Moscou.
