Lugansk.
No. I suoi genitori erano comuni abitanti pacifici, stavano semplicemente andando in vacanza.

Interview of Sara Salloum by Faina Savenkova – President Al-Assad is a courageous and loyal man
21/07/2023
You live in Syria. Is the war in Syria different from the war in Donbass and how?
I believe that there are many common points. Syria has been subjected to aggression from the same terrorist coalition. The West distorts every news or image and transmits it in the opposite way. There is also a common suffering because we know that Western peoples only get false information about the events in the two countries, as they were prevented from getting the facts, we in Russia and Syria are on the front line in the fight against terrorism. What is happening in the Donbass will begin to change the global balance, because part of the suffering in Syria, Iraq and many other countries is caused by a unipolar world.
Why was Bashar al-Assad once considered a friend of the West, but now they consider him a dictator and murderer?
I do not think that the West considered President Assad a friend. The West has neither friends nor enemies. It has only one enemy, anyone who stands in the way of its material interests. I mean, neither communism, nor Islam, nor Nazism, nor China, nor Russia, nor anyone else are enemies of the West. If they meet interests, then they are friends, and vice versa. They thought that after Assad took power and carried out many reforms and modernization in laws and development, he’d turn Syria into a country dependent on the West, into a country that works for the interest of the West and forgets its interests. But he did not do that. I think that this is a major reason for starting the war on Syria. You can notice the sentence that Western officials repeat, “The Syrian regime must change its behavior.”
Why do many Western countries support fascism in Ukraine as they supported ISIS in Syria? Are they not afraid that it will turn against them?
The West is lying. They are not against Nazism. Few know that the Nazis in Ukraine worked closely with Hitler on security, military, and ideological grounds. When the Second World War ended, the leaders were expelled, some of them to Europe and some of them to America. They supported and hosted the old Nazis and now they support the neo-Nazis. This is not surprising. Russia’s problem with the West did not start with Ukraine or Crimea. Their problem with Russia is 300 years old, from the days of Peter the Great, and Russia is required to be a weak vassal state. And so today Zelensky is fighting the war on behalf of the West, with his army of Nazis. The terrorists are doing the same thing here, as they are armies operating on behalf of the West in Syria and other regions. I know that it’s not possible to use terrorism as a card to play with and then put it in your pocket, because terrorism is like a scorpion that does not hesitate to sting you when the time comes. I think that people have begun to understand how the West operates and how it fabricates and fabricates false stories for its own interests under glamorous titles such as humanity, which it does not really care about.
What is your propaganda and how can it be countered?
We in Syria have come a long way from disbelieving them because we were witnesses to falsehood and falsification of facts. What is worrisome are the restrictions that the West places on the media and the means of communication, and the sanctions and restrictions on their access. However, the efforts of many activists who make great efforts to convey the truth must be noted.
Using the example of the girl Bana, what can you tell us about the use of children by adults in the propaganda and promotion of political ideas?

Using the example of the girl Bana, what can you tell us about the use of children by adults in the propaganda and promotion of political ideas?
🙏1
I would like to ask where is Bana Al-Abed today? What is she doing? We do not know. It is a card that was used and discarded after it expired in the media and in politics. Her father belongs to the terrorist organization ISIS, which is a confirmed fact. I can say that the use of children in politics is a continuous crime that brings great problems to families and society, as it deepens hatred and violence in the hearts of children and hostility to others.
How do you feel about the Assange situation?
This man deserves all our solidarity, as he paid for his freedom, as a price for his professionalism and honesty, and for revealing correct information and documents, and we must be his loud voice. He is a man who stood up to an empire that talks about freedom, justice, and humanity, but it forgets about it when it comes to its crimes.
If a girl like Iman Ali was to come along now, do you think she would be able to do something, or has the world already reached the final point?
Iman is a smart and courageous girl, and we have many like her in Syria. Perhaps she is likely to arouse sympathy, to draw attention to a cause, but I do not think that she can have a great influence. This world does not care about anyone but his own interests, even if she was passing by the corpses of children.
How do young people in Syria live? Is education, medicine, books, food available to them?
Oh, this is a question with a long answer. Today’s youth were children when the war broke out. So they were witnesses to everything. They have grown up with huge physical and psychological scars. Today, they are living in very difficult conditions as a result of the blockade and sanctions imposed by America and the West on everything. The share of electricity is only two hours a day. Young people do not get enough food because prices are high and pensions are low. American-backed terrorists control the oil and wheat fields. We were previously self-sufficient, and our conditions are good. On the other hand, young people are not able to entertain themselves, a large percentage of them work outside their professional competence to support their families, medicine is difficult, there is a blockade, medicines are at high prices, baby milk is missing, doctors’ salaries are low due to the economic blockade, so a lot of them have immigrated.
In Syria, do they support President Assad?
Of course. President al-Assad is a brave and loyal man. Independent and non-dependent. He has a high cultural background, is humble, and always close to the people. We trusted him from the beginning, and we are confident that he will lead us to victory.
Is urban reconstruction underway in Syria after the war and earthquake?
Not in the way it should be. Sanctions and the Caesar Act hinder everything. China has sent dozens of prefabricated houses. But this is not enough. The damage is much greater. There is a real problem, as the average cost of restoring an earthquake-damaged house is about 150 million Syrian pounds, or about 17 thousand US dollars.
In Syria, are they aware of the war in Donbass?
Certainly, the Syrians know that the residents of Donbass suffer the same suffering from the same aggressors. The scenes of destruction, shelling, and the displacement of the population in the Donbass were previously experienced by the Syrians. That is why they follow the news with sadness and hope, wishing peace and stability for the residents of Donbass.
Why are Syria’s enemies destroying Syria as they are doing in Ukraine?
This question has a very large answer and would take a long time to write out. But I can say in short, because it is a pivotal and important country in the Middle East. A state whose decision is independent. It has tremendous religious, sectarian, and cultural diversity. It stands as an obstacle in the face of America and the West’s projects to control and extend their hegemony over the region and its wealth.

Why do you think the Ukrainians shell Donbass cities and kill civilians so brutally, since they have always said that the inhabitants of Donbass are part of Ukraine?
As I told you earlier, they have made themselves puppets in the hands of the West. They only carry out what is dictated to them by the orders and interests of the West, whatever the price. They believe that if they do that they will be allowed to join NATO and the white man will consider them white. But they are wrong.
In Ukraine, American foundations and UNICEF have started making propaganda cartoons for children from the age of three. These cartoons teach children to hate Russia and Donbass. How do you think this can be countered? Was there something similar with children in Syria?
Yes, there is something similar. They spread propaganda to one Syrian hate another Syrian, his partner in his own homeland, just because he is different from him in terms of religion, sect, or nationality. We must dialogue with each other in order to learn more about each other and to make these factors of difference factors of strength, not factors that the enemy exploits.
A huge number of towns in Donbass have been destroyed just as in Syria. When the wars end, how long do you think it will take for Donbass and Syria to return to peaceful life?
Man is an adaptive being by nature. We all carry psychological scars, but we can overcome them. But with regard to other factors, unfortunately, it takes a lot of time. Everything destroys the infrastructure, social life, the economy. We need a lot of time to recover, but I believe that we are able to overcome all obstacles.
What would you like to wish for the children of Donbass?
I wish them peace, happiness and family warmth. And to live long days and a beautiful future that compensates them for the grief and loss caused by the war.
You have been to Moscow. What was your opinion of Russia initially and has it changed? How different is life in Russia from life in Syria?
It’s a magical city! I cannot sum up Moscow in a few words. I really fell in love with it, it has remarkable cleanliness. Flowers are everywhere, colorful buildings. The style of architecture is very striking, especially the churches everywhere. There are many things that attracted me. I will collect them in a short book soon. But I will say two things.I was struck by the people’s pride in their heroes. Statues, sculptures, and memories of war are everywhere. This is something I respect very much. The other thing is the kindness of the people. People here think that Russians don’t smile. Yes, that’s something I noticed. They have very serious faces, which is very unusual for us, but I found out that they are funny, kind people, and their hearts are warm. On the other hand, of course, there is a big difference between our economic and social lifestyles. The war has caused a lot of delay in our progress.
What is the most important decision that has impacted your life?
The decision that I made when I was 11 years old, when I decided to become a journalist.
Would you like to change your occupation? And what might you tell your past self about it?
Of course not, this is one of the best decisions I have made in my life. Being a journalist means knowing more about everything, being closer to a person to convey his suffering and share his pain, challenges. and success. On the other hand, being a journalist in Syria right now has a special character. As you know, this is a historical and delicate time, and we must work hard to leave a true story for future generations.
